My friend has a 6S and she's still running iOS 12. When she wants to read a text message with hey siri on the lock screne, it says you'll need to unlock your iPhone first. She went into notifications and then into messages and the setting was set to show previews always default but she's still having the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I am experiencing this on new iPhone 11. I did direct transfer from old phone. No setting change has solved the issue. Siri will no longer tell me my emails when locked.
Restrictions?
Maybe a look in the restrictions section of settings? I believe it's either in general or rather in privacy. But I'm not sure even that would solve this issue. As far as I know, Siri was never ever able to read messages or mails while locked.
