A message I sent to a friend this morning failed to transmit through IMessage, so I enabled sms to allow it to send as a text message. Once they'd received and responded, I went back in and turned sms back off, hoping to force it back to IMessage once again. However, each message I get still says text message, and no delivered/read notifications. Any idea what might be going on here? Thanks in advance.

Does the friend use an iOS device to receive messages?
Does the friend receive messages using an iOS device and do they have iMessages enabled?
Yes (the recipient uses an
Yes (the recipient uses an IPhone SE) and yes (when we messaged just last night, every message was shown as being sent via IMessage and delivery/read receipts were working correctly). This morning's message failed to be delivered, so I turned sms on and allowed it to be resent that way, until I knew the person had gotten it and responded, when I turned it back off. That person is still reading and responding now, but the delivery/read notifications are not showing up, even though they're still on in the settings. The text box still claims text message as does when I send out my message, yet both sms and mms messaging is off, as is my cellular service, so it has to be sending now through IMessage only, yet just not showing up as such for whatever reason. O.O Edit: I just checked with my phone carrier, and despite sms and mms being turned off in settings > Messenger and my cellular data being turned off in settings > Cellular Data, the messages we've been trading are indeed still going out via text and not IMessage. :( How do I force this conversation to once again be sent by IMessage?
problem solved
Found out from the person that they changed their message settings to disable IMessage, so that problem is solved. :$
Unread
I get the following when I send a iMessage to someone. I see the message and voiceover sometimes saids unread. Anyone has this issue? Using iPhone xx and iOS 12.4.1
I only see delivered
I wonder if you see unread because the recipient has the option called send read receipts turned on. Maybe in this case the unread will change to read after the recipient has read the message. I don't really know because no one that I text with has send read receipts turned on and I don't either.
