I would say both is better than one or the other. However, if I had to choose, I would prefer to back up my iDevices on the computer because, not only, it's faster to restore everything from the back up when I had to restore or update my iDevice, but it also gives me a chance to roll back any apps in case the new version got some accessibility issue. I agree with the above comment. What I do is set it to back up to iCloud. Back-ups take place automatically when the phone is charging and connected to wi-fi. (You might have to switch that option on). However I also sync the phone with iTunes on my computer, and also do manual back-ups to it relatively regularly.

Hi! I have a silly question somehow related to this topic that i've always wanted to ask you guys about... In itunes, what is the actual difference between syncing and backuping your device? Doesn't both save your apps and stuff to itunes? Sorry, folks, i should know this! ;) Thx
Hi Cliff. Sync just syncs the actual content such as music, movies, apps etc. between your computer and device. Back-up is a back-up of your phone's actual state. It is not a huge amount of data. It backs up things like your phone's settings, messages, the layout of apps and folders. Basically it will let you restore the phone to exactly how it was at the time of the back-up. The back-up itself though does not contain the actual apps, podcasts, music, videos etc. When restore to a back-up, these get synced again from iTunes and/or downloaded again, and should return to the state they were in at time of back-up. Hope that makes sense!!
I agree with David's comment, but I would like to correct a little part of it. Although sync and back up are two diffrent things, they can both be done at the same time when you are just syncing your iDevice if you have your device set to back it up on Itunes and not to the cloud. regards, Musicruz

The sound complicated but wasn't at all a couple taps and a couple clicks and it was done. There are no stupid questions on this website I found because with our devices what should be the simplest thing to do is the most complicated thing to do thanks John
