Stupid apple question

I should know this, having three iphones an old iPod and an iPad under my belt, but I forgot. When you back up the phone or device, is your music backed up as well, or is it just the apps? I'm wanting to make sure my music is backed up correctly so I don't lose it. A lot of it is hard to find. Thanks all

As the subject says, you need the (paid) iTunes Match service to do this. Your only other option for backing up music is to offload it to some other cloud service, like Amazon Cloud, or use iTunes on a computer. If you want to stay the Apple route, Match may well be a good option. Don't quote me, but I think it is $25 per year for the first and lowest-capacity option.

I'm curiou, but what sugested I wasn't willing to use itunes? I'm not psending 25 a year formt he msuic match,t hanks for the suggestion. I simply was trying to ask, when using itunes to back up a device, is the music backed up as well for i have forgotten. thanks.

I think your best bet is to continue using iTunes, and be sure to back up your iTunes library. I read somewhere that using encrypted backups stores more information than unencrypted, but, it does not store music. Podcasts are a different issue, and the podcatching app may have an option to include its data in a device back up.

Hi Siobhan, if you bought your music, apps and ringtones from iTunes, it will transfer all of them to your computer when you click the "transfer purchases from iPhone, iPod or iPad." As long as you can provide all the associate password for iTunes accounts that you bought them with. However, if this is the first time you are going to back your iDevice to that particular computer, and you never bought any of your music from iTunes, it'll delete all of them. The only work around with this is if you can use a third-party software to grab all your music from your iDevice and back them up using the traditional way, prior to you syncing your iDevice on Itunes. Then, import those music to Itune Library and sync them back to your iDevice. It's really a mess how this things work. That's why I always suggest to people to synce and back up their iDevices using a particular computer all the time, so they are rest assured that all their contents are safe, unless your hard drive crashes, then I don't know what else to tell you. You are really out of luck. regards, Musicruz

In iTunes, locate your iDevice. Right-click on it by either pressing the applications key, or by pressing shift-F10. Locate the "Transfer Purchases" option, and press enter. iTunes should now backup your purchased music and apps. Thanks, Shersey

When you are in menu bar... You can also go into file then devices... You can sync, transfer, backup, and restore from backup from there. Transfer will indeed save your music
