Still a pretty accessible app to use. What's New in Version 2.8.3 - encryption: your messages are now fully encrypted when traveling over Wi-Fi or mobile network! - show push names in group chats for unknown numbers - better message forwarding picker (show groups, recents, contacts) - spinning indicator changed to gray clock to match other platforms - image auto-download - updated Korean, Chinese and many other translations

hi all. with the newest version of whatapp, i noticed there is a push to talk button which allows me to immidiately record voices messages to the chat. however, if the other party is also a vo user, he/she will not be able to play the audio message. however, if i choose the share media button and then record a voice note and send it, the other party will be able to play the audio note when they receive it. so basically this only happens if we use the push to talk tutton. however, non vo users are still able to play the push to talk voice message. can anyone help?

Quite a few things seem to have been broken in the new update (released earlier this week) as far as accessibility with Voiceover is concerned. Things that have worked perfectly fine prior to this update, are not working anymore. I installed the update after looking at the notes for the update (which stated that Voiceover accessibility improvements and enhancements had been made). What an absolute nightmare! The frequent loss of focus (hence making it a pain to navigate through conversations and access messages), inability to access time stamps and whether a certain text is mine or my friend's, constant lag while loading chats or navigating through messages in a chat, the voice message button being labeled incorrectly are just a few. I also have noticed that the keyboard keeps disappearing anytime you stop typing and touch above it to check what's been typed thus far. So, each tyime I stop typing and try to check what I have written, the keyboard disappears. Hence, I have to double tap in the field again to get it back. If I stop and check my text again, it disappears. This also happens if I stop typing and want to check a new message that I have received in the same conversation while I am typing. Emailed the Whatsapp Support team. Hopefully they will pay attention and resolve these issues.

Hello. I have updated WhatsApp to the latest version now i can't send audio notes. what should i do? please help and thanks very much
To send a voice message in version 2.11.7: 1. Select the Voice Message button. 2. Double tap and hold, and keep holding. 3. Whatsapp will keep recording as long as your finger is pressed on the screen. 4. let go to send the recording.

By falcon wings on Sunday, February 23, 2014 - 08:07

the entry needs to be updated as it still has paid in the free or paid section, and whatsapp has been free for quite a while now. Or at least for the first year or so.

The iTunes Store officially shows this app as "Free," so I have updated the Free/Paid option accordingly. Thanks for letting us know about this!

By Amber on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 - 08:07

Hello, I have been sending voice messages ever since I got this app back in February. It is now April. Either way, when I am recording voice messages, I hold my finger in one place and it records for a while, then vibrates and dings and sends my message. Before I even let up on the button. Sometimes this happens 5 seconds into the message and sometimes it's 30 seconds in. It's different every time, and I just thought it had a limit on the length of a voice message you can send. But I talked to various other people, and theirs has never done that! Other peoples' apps don't give them a limit at all, I've even seen messages a minute and a half long! I tried getting on WiFi and doing it that way, and the problem still occurred so I know it's not a network issue. I just sent a message on Twitter to the app developers and haven't heard back from them, but I thought I'd ask you guys too and see if you've heard of this happening or have had it happen to you. If so, were you able to fix it, or do you have any other suggestions on what I can do to fix it? Thank you. Hope to hear from someone soon.

- You can now share slow-motion videos (iPhone 5s only)
- You can now trim videos before sharing them

- New media auto-download preferences: Settings > Chat Settings > Media Auto-Download
- New Wallpapers: Settings > Chat Settings > Chat Wallpapers > Wallpaper Library
- New Notification tones: Settings > Notifications

By Toonhead on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 - 08:07

I went to look for these new notification tones but all I see are the ones I've already had for a good while now. Where are these new tones?

By Raul on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 - 08:07

There are no new tones but the iOS 7 ones. I prefer the classic Tritone, now replaced by the new one.

There is another update which fixes some accessibility issues and creates new ones :D. Now the time is back and also the message status. In the other hand the focus seems to jump a bit.

By KE7ZUM on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 - 08:07

Has anyone reported these to @fbaccess or @whatsapp even though they have not tweeted since april of this year? If so what is your response you get from them?

By Alan on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 - 08:07

Hi there,

In my iPhone 5, runing Iios8, whatsapp crashes aparently without any reason. Sometimes happens, sometimes not... I'm reporting that to whatsapp developers (it can be done by the corresponding option under setings tap).

Are you experiencing this bug? If you do, the more of us are reporting, sooner it will be updated...

Thanks!

By Mohammed Al-shara on Sunday, November 23, 2014 - 08:07

Hi.

a lot of the above issues have been fixed in the latest release. time to update this, I think.

By Lielle ben simon on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

Hi! Has meny improoves in whatsapp.
In this version voiceover don't gump between messages, and all number have there name. Voiceover read the name after the number. This version is2.12.1

By Toonhead on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

This is a small one but in the latest What's app, when you receive a voice message from someone the app now presents it in a bit of a different way. For example, when you receive a voice message from bob, when you flick to it in the list of messages, you will now hear, Voice message from bob. Kind of cool.

By rdfreak on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

I sadly decided to delete this app the other day as I was actually getting spammed. Not sure how this could happen.
Perhaps I did it prematurely/ For all I know, there could be a privacy setting though I haven't found it.

By Laurent on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

It is still impossible to dictate while you are using the application… I have just tested again, I confirm that the dictation doesn't work with voice-over… It works only if you disable voice over…

By Lielle ben simon on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

Hi! The dectation dose work. It's not stop after 3 words.

By Diana on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

Has anyone tried whatsApp calling yet? Do you know how it works?

By sechaba on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

Please someone assist in telling how whatsapp calling works? in the latest update you must be able to do that, right?

By splyt on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

Whatsapp dictation issuue persists withh voiceover. Not able to test it with VO disabled.

By Salman on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

I have tested out something on a couple of devices (both iPhone 5S's) and have found it to work, so am just putting it out here to see if it works for others too. If you actually find the Dictate button on the iOS keyboard, and double tap it with one finger to start dictation, then dictation does seem to work the way its supposed to. Meaning, it doesn't cut you off or end abruptly.
However, if you perform the two finger double tap gesture anywhere to start dictation, then this dictation bug is indeed encountered.
Therefore, for those who are still encountering the bug, maybe you can try finding and double tapping the actual Dictate button with one finger, rather than using the two finger double tap gesture anywhere on the screen to start/stop dictation, and see how it works.

By Indra on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

I have tried to do dictation with button on the left of the keyboard. And it works correctly

By Indra on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

I have tried to do dictation with button on the left of the keyboard. And it works correctly

By Toonhead on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

Maybe that's why I never experienced the bug so many other folks did? There was a dictate button right there, so naturally, I used that and it works. I've never heard of this thing of being able to double-tap anywhere on the screen to dictate. Most times if I do that, the last bit of music I was playing starts again.

By KE7ZUM on Thursday, April 23, 2015 - 08:07

You have to tape in the edit field then magic tap to start dictation. The feature has been around for at least 2 years now.

I haven't downloaded this app as of yet, but I have a question. I've been targeted in the past for personal info as well as involved in a major breach this year, so am not willing to give my mobile number out. I've seen mention of this app in some facebook apps, but according to what I've read, it ties to my phone, so does this mean I have to give my mobile number out? Someone today told me about an app which now i forget its name, but it would give me a secondary number. Any advice before I download this app?

I don't think you can do it any other way, as the app is tied to your phone number and you have to verify it with a text message when you sign up. You may be able to use a Google Voice number, though. I just don't use Google Voice much though so I'm not sure.

By Kevan on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 08:07

The latest update of What'sApp breaks the information on how long voice messages are. It doesn't mention the message length in the chat history anymore, and when you go to the list of contacts whom you've chatted with it just says duration, 0.
I'm still using ioS 8, so does anyone know if it got fixed in iOS 9?

They can be contacted at support@whatsapp.com.

By KE7ZUM on Friday, October 23, 2015 - 08:07

Google ; voice might work. Give it a try. I used my real phone number. I'll ask my boss tomorrow what info he needs to find me as I'm not sure. Lol!

I'll actually have to play with that as I updated before work today. I thought the messages did read but when I play with it in the morning I'll find out.

By Bobbi on Saturday, January 23, 2016 - 08:07

Hi, the duration reads for me when I move to a particular voice message. Running iOS 9.2.1 here.

On an unrelated note, you can actually go into a chat and delete individual messages from your phone rather than deleting the whole chat. Double tap and hold on the message you want to delete, then do a 4-finger single tap at the bottom of the screen. You'll find several options there that will stay until you touch another message, such as delete, forwad, and in the case of text messages, copy.

Does anyone know how I might delete multiple messages at one time? I've been trying to get WhatsApp to Email me an entire chat with 50 something messages in it, which according to their FAQ should be possible since it can send up to 10,000 messages. I seem to be only getting half of them when trying to send media, though, and am going to try to delete all the messages up to a certain point. The way to delete messages described above works really well for deleting one message at a time, but is very time consuming when trying to delete bunches at once. Any suggestions here? Remember, I don't want to delete the entire chat. Just several messages in a row within that chat.

By Toonhead on Saturday, January 23, 2016 - 08:07

Yes, the duration of the chat messages works just fine in iOS 9. please update and you'll get this functionality back. iOS 9 is worth the upgrade anyways.

Hi all, as the subject line says is their
any work around how to send long duration video about, 10 to 20 minits?

the rest wont go
I have report to whats app team cupple, but doesn't work,
so is their any way? to do this ?

By KE7ZUM on Saturday, January 23, 2016 - 08:07

Try recording through the camera app. Then send it that way. If that doesn't work, then not much you can do. I've sent 4 and 5 minute videos this way by the way.

By Wahid Raza on Saturday, January 23, 2016 - 08:07

hey thanks a lot, yes its realy useful to me
I need another work around sending other long duration video clips, which I got from youtube
is their any work around for the same?
once again thanks a lot

By smhy on Sunday, July 23, 2017 - 08:07

I just discovered that there are now actions available when you put VO focus on an individual message. You can directly message that person if the message is in a group chat, or delete, save, copy, forward, reply, or star the message. If the message was quoting and replying to another message in the group chat, you can go to the quoted message. Also, if you sent the message, you can get "info," which means see all the individual people in the chat and whether your message has been delivered to or read by that person. Really great stuff. Until recently, some of these functions could be accessed by double tapping and holding on the individual message, but then the options would pop up in a little menu that was tricky to find if you can't see the screen. I don't know when the update with the rotor functions happened, but I love it.

Or I just discovered something that's been there forever. Who knows?

By Raul on Saturday, November 23, 2019 - 08:07

You can now send messages from the Braille keyboard

By KE7ZUM on Saturday, November 23, 2019 - 08:07

I've ben using BSI to send messages for ages now. I don't really understand the last comment.

By Indra on Saturday, November 23, 2019 - 08:07

hello... The comment above means that after you type a message using BSI, you don't need to go back to normal mode and tap the send button. Just do three fingers swipe up when you're in BSI mode. That gesture is called action..

By ming on Sunday, May 23, 2021 - 08:07

I don'[t know
I found the latest update is very buggy.
first of all.
it has the something like "PTT Play button " to play the message.
and then when the new message coming up. (even I mute the group) voice over always jumping to the messages.

By KE7ZUM on Sunday, May 23, 2021 - 08:07

I kind of like it actually, I dun no why, but it feels easier to use, except when the ptt play button does not t appear and I have to focus on the message itself. that's fine though.

By DMNagel on Sunday, May 23, 2021 - 08:07

Whenever I try to get to the latest voice message, the ptt play button makes my cursor jump. Total BS. I hope they fix it soon.

By SmoothJazzyTrumpet on Sunday, May 23, 2021 - 08:07

I contacted the developers of this app for iPhone and they got back to me saying that they’re in the process of fixing these issues you all speak of that I also experience as well. Fingers crossed for a better update experience.

By KE7ZUM on Sunday, May 23, 2021 - 08:07

Actually it's quite easy now that i"m used to it. simply explore by touch and the ptt play button is slightly above the person's name on the left hand side. This about 90 percent of the time.
