“The new Foursquare, like Netflix, takes a lot of the work out of finding the right thing for the right moment.” — The Verge
How It Works:
Tell Foursquare what you like — be specific, like “craft beer” or “fried chicken,” or more general, like “outdoor seating” or “romantic places.” Every
search is tailored to your tastes, your past ratings, and picks from friends and experts you trust.
Want to check in, keep up, and meet up with friends?
Download our companion app, Swarm.
A note on battery –
We've spent years developing the location technology that powers Foursquare, making it extremely power efficient. But, as with all apps of this type, please
note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Version 5.4
This is a new update and I have not seen any sort of accessibility issues with it. So the coast is clear! ;)
What's New in Version 5.4
Foursquare helps you make the most of where you are, and this update is all about finding the best place to go and making your visit more interesting and fun. A cornucopia of wonderful updates awaits you:
★ Decide where to go, or what to do when you’re already there.
✓ If you're looking for a place to go, you'll now see the most important stuff up top when you tap through, like the rating, address, hours, menu, and phone number.
✓ If you're already checked in, you'll see things like who else is there and popular tips (to make sure you order right).
✓ We also added big, swipeable photos at the top to help you get a sense of what it’s like.
★ Every time you check in, you’ll learn something interesting.
People love points, great tips, and other nuggets of information. So we’ve simplified the experience after you check in to just show you one important takeaway. ‘Seven weeks in a row going to the gym,’ ‘a great off-the-menu burger you have to order,’ or ‘your 20th time hanging out with your friend Charles.’ Foursquare will show you the most interesting highlight from your visit.
Enjoy discovering new places, and making the most of your visits. Happy Holidays from Foursquare.

Version 5.4.3
Don't typically post minor updates but this particular update has some very interesting new features.
What's New in Version 5.4.3
With this update, we're improving check-in notification settings to help you keep up with the people you care most about. Head to your settings from the profile tab to try them out!
✓ Choose "ALWAYS" for close friends and family you always want to keep up with. You'll get notifications for all their check-ins, no matter where they are in the world.
✓ Choose "NEARBY" for friends you'd like to hear about from time to time. We'll only notify you when they're close by.
✓ Choose "OFF" for those acquaintances you don't really want updates from. And that bike messenger friend who checks in at every spot on his route.
Version 6.0
An intersting update. Definetly a major overhaul in what we had before. The UI is isn't as clean and simple as it once was. With some learning of where things went. You shouldn't have to much of a hard time. There are some unlabel buttons and several areas that I can hear a click but nothing is spoken.
I like the fact you can see the recommendations. For example, when I checked my Foursquare it was about lunch time. So it recommended some lunch places that I thought I be interested in. I do like that feature.
Overall, it's different. Don't particularly like the update myself but that is my first thought on this release. What about you?
What's New in Version 6.0
With the new Foursquare 6.0, we’ve crunched our billions of check-ins to instantly show you the most interesting things nearby. They’re insights that only Foursquare can deliver, the moment you open up the app. We also put search front-and-center, so you can find whatever you’re craving fast.
✓ Instantly see the best of what’s nearby. In Paris for the first time? We’ll show you the top sights and attractions, approved by local check-ins. In a familiar neighborhood? We can tell you about an up and coming restaurant that just opened up a few blocks away. Whether you’re near familiar stomping grounds or a tourist fresh off the plane, we show you the most interesting things nearby when you open Foursquare.
✓ Search is front-and-center! You can search Explore from the top of the app as soon as you open it up, so you can find what you’re craving even faster. Type what you’re looking for (like “dessert” or “park”), browse a type of place (like “Nightlife”), or tap “Best Nearby” to see our top picks in the area.
Download the update now and try it out!
Version 6.1
There does not seem to be any voice over improvements with in this version. Everything that I have mentioned above are still there.
What's New in Version 6.1
We made some bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements. Download the update, search for "milkshake" or "park," and enjoy your day!
Version 6.2.2
Non-Visually Adding Places?
Add your Location
Hello Misty,
Well, you can from the FourSquare App itself. Though, it isn't as easy as it use to be. So hopeing that somebody would have an easier alternative.
First you must be at the location that you want to add:
1) Open the FourSquare App
2) Double tap on the CheckIn button located at the bottom center of the screen
3) Towards the top is the Search Location
4) Double tap and do any kind of search so in this example I just used zzzz and then Search
5) Scroll down until you find the Add This Place button
6) Double tap on the Add This Place
7) Now give it a name, Select the Category, and an address if you want
8) Double tap on the Add button at the top right hand corner
9) Boom. Now you have added a new location

Version 6.4
What's New in Version 6.4
We simplified Foursquare to focus on what's most relevant right now:
- Got an hour to kill before dinner? There's a new 'nearby' button. Tap it to see which of your friends are around.
- Want to meet up with someone right now? We now just show each friend's most recent check-in. Want to dig deeper and see more? Tap through to their profile.
- As always, the second you open the app, we show you what's interesting around you, like a new restaurant or a popular concert nearby.
Find great stuff, nearby, right now, with the newly updated Foursquare.
NOTE: New to iOS 7? Be sure to open the new Foursquare so you don't miss updates from your friends.

What's New in Version 7.0.8
Tomorrow, we will release Swarm, a new app to help people keep up and meet up with their friends. For people who have installed Swarm, this update to Foursquare
includes a peek at some of upcoming changes to Foursquare. Later this summer, a completely revamped, search-focused experience will be coming to Foursquare.
If I'm getting it right, now
If I'm getting it right, now check-ins belong to swarm, and foursquare will be used for... what exactly?
It was funny to know how many people were at the same place, now with swarm this only can be done with friends.

Good luck.
Accessibility going downhill again
I find using Foursquare more and more difficult using VoiceOver. Browsing through a search result list is a pain - it kicks the VoiceOver focus out of the list all the time and the list doesn‘t scroll along while being browsed with VO. The same happens with the tips for a selected venue.
When searching, it is not clear to me anymore in how large an area Foursquare actually searches. If only it would have a number like 2 miles around current location or similar.
I liked Foursquare for all its precious tips around the world. But at the moment, using it really sucks...
