We at AppleVis appreciate the enthusiasm and commitment shown by app developers in engaging with our community. However, we have a strict policy that prohibits developers from submitting their own apps to our App Directory. This rule is in place to maintain the integrity and impartiality of our App Directory as a source of unbiased, user-generated information about app accessibility.
The reasons for this policy are:
- The App Directory is intended for users of Apple's vision accessibility features to share their independent experiences and assessments of app accessibility.
- While some developers could provide accurate and complete information about their app's accessibility, our experience shows these are the exception rather than the rule.
- We've observed instances where developers or their agents misrepresent app accessibility, often due to lack of knowledge about Apple's accessibility features.
- Allowing some developers to submit their apps would complicate enforcement and could lead to accusations of favoritism.
- A consistent policy ensures fairness and maintains user trust in the App Directory.
If your app is not currently listed in the App Directory and you believe it would interest our community, we encourage you to:
- Post about it in our forum. When posting, focus on the app's accessibility with VoiceOver: Braille; and Apple's low vision features, as this is what users primarily want to know.
- If you have a paid app, consider offering promo codes to incentivize users to try it out and provide feedback.
For apps already in the Directory, developers are welcome to provide additional information and respond to user comments.
Please note: If your app is not accessible or you have no plans to make it accessible, a forum post may not benefit you or our community and may be removed.
We hope this explanation clarifies our position. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
