How do I get PiccyBot for Windows?

The developer's website is frustratingly confusing and not accessible enough for convenient navigation with screen readers. I couldn't find a download link or a page for PiccyBot, nor could I find any results upon searching for "PiccyBot" on the Microsoft Store. How on earth do I download this app?

Hi,
I've just checked the developer's website, and it's only available on iPhone and Android. Maybe some of his apps are available on Windows, but not this one.

Someone else wrote in a WhatsApp group earlier that the app was available on Windows as well, and I just wanted to search for it.

I'm pretty sure piccybot is currently only available as a mobile app on Android and IOS ... not Windows support at this time.

Yesterday I heard about a video description tool called ViddyScribe. It is available as a web app, so that means if you'[ve got a browser you've got it ... that includes Windows. I haven't yet tried it myself. It was reviewed on the Carrie ON Accessibility youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cOoIFXsUxk&t=3s). It's created by the same folks that are developing BenVision and SpeakAboo (both are IOS-only apps).

The home page for ViddyScribe is https://www.viddyscribe.com/

It behaves somewhat simolar to SeeingAI's video description tool (beta) in that it pauses the video to play the audio description.

Here is an example of a video processed by ViddyScribe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_v3mti0sY4

I hope this helps.

I can use Be My Eyes on my computer anyway, but just wanted to try out PiccyBot and know whether it was available on Windows. So is ViddyScribe totally free? There's a link to request a demo on the page, but I couldn't find any pricing info.

I believe ViddyScribe is free of charge ... at least that is what the developer stated dureing the Carrie On Accessibility interview. I haven't yet tried it, but I think there is also a "get started" link that might get you into the meat of the webapp.

Hope they also make an app to speed up the process. Such a website is great because it's cross-platform, and requires no additional steps like creating an account or installing an app. This is great, but having to open a web-browser, type the address, wait for the page to load and navigate it, are slower compared to just launching an app and double-tapping some button to pick a video.

I mean, you could speed up the process a little bit, by placing a shortcut or bookmark on your desktop, so all you would have to do is click on the shortcut to launch it.

Because an app has its own interface and only loads the content updated/refreshed upon launch or when a certain event like a command you perform triggers this, or if background app refresh is enabled. Web pages, on the other hand, load more content including the page layout and, in most cases, other unnecessary stuff like ads and cookies that slow down the process even further. So I go for apps rather than websites unless an app takes up so much disk space or I am running out of disk space, or I don't use the app that often or need a cross-platform solution.

You'd be surprised how many apps are just a container for a web site. It's a cheap and easy way to get on to the app store for the many people who don't know how to make a shortcut or would rather just download an app because it seems easier to them.

I mean, I think you misunderstood my last post. I was not suggesting you use a website over a nap. You suggested there was no app, that you, had, to use a website. I merely suggested you make a shortcut on your desktop, so you don't have to keep opening a browser, typing out the address, etc., etc.
... and before you suggest that a shortcut is a web browser, I will say once again, that you would be missing my point entirely. So yeah, don't do that. 🤨

I know, creating a shortcut would at least mean I wouldn't have to repeat the steps you mentioned every time when visiting a particular website, but I would just prefer as little Safari data and as fewer icons as possible. I clear Safari data once in a while, and don't really use the Bookmarks feature that often. I only did that to use GoldWave on my iPhone.

You do you. Maybe the developer of this will one day make a Windows app for it in the Microsoft store.

I might just make a shortcut instead because I really need a good alternative that serves as a pseudo-Seeing AI on Windows, and Be My Eyes does not describe videos as yet.
