I'm running iTunes 11 for Windows and JAWS 14 on an XP SP2 machine. I need to delete my current iTunes library and start a new one. I want to keep all my media files and just delete the library files. How do I do this?
Hi Josh. I'm afraid I don't have any answer other then my subject line. It's urprising what you can find out when you start googlin. That's how i got my email I lost back, trusted instructions as people didn't really have answers on here. It worked. Hope you can get an answer. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
Hi Josh,
Welcome to AppleVis!
Deleting your iTunes library on Windows is relatively easy. The only thing I'm not sure about in XP is where the iTunes folder itself is stored. It should be in music, but I'm not sure what the exact file path would be.
Once you find your iTunes folder (again, it should be in the Music folder), there will be several subfolders. In my case, they were Album Artwork, iTunes Media, and Previous iTunes Libraries. You will also find various iTunes files in the main iTunes folder; in my case, these files were "iTunes Library Extras.itdb," "iTunes Library Genius.itdb," "iTunes Library.itl," and "iTunes Music Library.xml." You can safely delete all of these files, and if everything works as it should, your library should be deleted and you can start fresh.
Regards,
Michael
Thank you, Michael! I had found those files in my iTunes folder, but I wasn't sure which ones to delete or not delete. I'll try it and see if it works.
I believe if you remove the iTunes library.itl file it will start a new library as well. I had to do this when mine got corrupted on my mac, that was over a year ago but good luck.
