Hello fokes,
I am writing to you asking for assistance with my focus 40 blue fifth generation
The challenge I am having is that the device is not connecting to my Hp computer.
The system model is System Model HP EliteBook 840 G2
However, the display is able to connect to my iPhone very well but when I try to such for it using my computer’s Bluetooth, I am not able to see it.
I have even tried to go to the settings of JAWs and configure it as necessary but so far in vain.
I even downloaded the latest Bluetooth drivers for my HP laptop but I Have no success.
I even when ahead and downloaded the FS Braille driver but it has not helped either.
Fokes, I really need your help.
This has limited me to always carry my computer to the podium when I have a PowerPoint presentation to make.
What can do to make my focus 40 blue be recognised by my computer so that I can connect to it?
Please help...

Hi,

Have you made sure when doing this that the phone is locked? If already connected then it will default to the phone. So you don't want even notifications coming through when trying to connect. Can't remember how I did it but there is a keystroke on the display to switch between devices and I wonder if you need to activate this before you try to connect a 2nd device. If I recall for me it was quick and just appeared on the laptop as an option and I connected.

WELL, WHAT I DID IS THAT I TRIED TO EVEN FORGET THE FOCUS FROM MY IPHONE ANDE EVEN WENT AHEAD TO TURN OFF BLUETOOTH.
Still, when i went to the Bluetooth settings of the computer, i tried to add new device, nothing showed up.
Is it to do with the HP elitBook 840 G2 laptop. Does the HP elitbook 840 G2 connect to the focus via Bluetooth or not.
Also, what is the key stroke for switching one device to another on a braille display?
Maybe it will help.

I've been through this before and yes it can be rather complicated. What Windows version are you using? I've got Windows 11. This isn't readily obvious, and documentation for the Focus displays really should be updated with this info. Go in to Windows settings, then bluetooth. You're looking for a button that says more options, and then you're looking for something about device detection. Change this from default to advanced, and then search for devices again, and it will show up. Not sure why it's so complicated, but had the exact same issue connecting the Focus to a Windows desktop.
I would encourage you to erase all devices, and then add them in order of importance. So add your computer first, then the phone, etc. The keys to switch between connected devices is the menu key plus one of the dots held down at the same time. Also worth noting, if you've been using the Focus with your phone, and you go to reconnect with your computer, while it may automatically pair again with your computer, you may need to restart your screen reader in order for it to detect it again and start working propperly.
Hope this helps.

Well I actually had thought of deleting all the devices that I previously used with this Focus 40.
however, I would like to know how to completely erase all these devices!
I have tried to go to the menu then connections; finally to delete all but I have failed to delete or erase all devices but in vain. How can I do this successfully?
Actuallly, I am equallly using windows 11 23H2.
Thanks for your kind assistance.

Hi, Justin is right. This Windows settings seems to move around. On my Windows 11 laptop, I find this in a combo box:
1. Open Bluetooth Settings.
2. Tab many times until you find Bluetooth devices discovery combo box.
3. Change this setting to Advanced.
Note: unlike Justin I do not have the More Settings button, but I think it used to be that way. So if the combo box isn't there yet try any More Setttings button first.

After that, I'd advise turning off the iPhone's Bluetooth temporarily. Power on the Focus, then on Windows do Add Device.

Yeah, I've seen it both ways. Not entirely sure why, but either way, that's what you need to do.
