How to put watch back to sleep using your hand over the top

Hi everyone. I am enjoying the new updates to the watch but I'm having two issues.

Firstly I am finding the taptic time on the wrist a bit hit and miss and secondly its been a long time since I knew how to put the watch to sleep with the hand over the top. Are there settings I need to altar to make this work. Does my hand need to touch the screen of the apple watch to do this?

If Anyone can answer this I would be greatful.

Thanks.

Did you adjust the haptic intensity? Make sure that it is at 100 percent. To put your watch to sleep, simply cover it with the palm of your hand until you hear the lock sound. Then, take your hand off after the lock sound happens. You might also want to restart the haptic time feature. Open the watch app on your iPhone, then scroll down and double tap on general, next double tap the accessibility settings and haptic time should be somewhere in the VoiceOver settings. Hope this helps.
