tvOS and Apple TV Apps

Hi! I decided to get an Apple TV on impulse and love it but I am not sure I know what I am doing on it, I managed to set it up and then now I am trying to update it. Does anyone have any tips? I have an Apple TV 4k.

Go to settings greater than system greater then software update and then click on the Vergen which is announced it will automatically check updates and present you with options . Here I am assuming you know how to operate Apple TV remote and you know all about it. If you don’t and you find it something difficult please let is know in the comments below. Thank you.

I know the remote well by now. The only thing I cannot get the hang of is the volume buttons. I cannot seem to change the volume. I like it so far and it is really great.

Works great. Watching movies and listening to music and pod books like crazy. Still not sure why the volume buttons don't work. The ones my staff says is plus and minus wich I assume is the volume buttons.

"Still not sure why the volume buttons don't work."

you probably need to enable hdmi control on your tv, that is the display thing, not your apple tv. hdmi control is generally not enabled by default.

Hi there,

The above commenter is correct; if this still doesn't work, your tv may not be able to control the volume via any other sources but the remote. It sounds weird, but I have a TV in my home that won't work at all with the volume buttons.

Also, a suggestion: make sure you know where follow focus is on the roder. It will make navigating grid menus much easier!

Thanks for this. We've just got our first Apple TV today after deciding we didn't watch enough TV to warrant our Sky subscription any more. I have no doubt this will be really useful.

Hi folks. My first issue is for anyone in the UK. I'm trying to set up My5 and I get to the point where I need to sign in and I press the sign in button and I'm presented with what seems to be a 6 digit code. I'm assuming this is like a two-step verification thing. Either way I don't know what to do with this once I'm here so if anyone from the UK has got this sorted I'd appreciate it. Also, volume buttons? Where are they? I haven't even come across them and have simply been using my tv remote. I think the setting that was mentioned earlier on in this thread is turned on on our tv as we have the sonos beam which required us to do just that so if anyone can tel me where the volum buttons are that would be useful also. I might well find it in the podcasts list mentioned above however.

The volume buttons are the long button on the bottom right of your remote. Pressing the top portion of the long button should raise the volume and pressing the lower portion will lower the volume. Hope this helps.

Hi Jim. Thanks for yoru reply. I don't know where on earth my head was at yesterday. I knew perfectly well where the volume buttons were haha. I also managed to get my5 working so very pleased about that. FYI for those in the UK, if you install it, and try and sign in, you are presented with a 6 digit activation code. You then have to go to the my5.tv/activate and I presume put in the code. Voiceover doesn't read out this screen at all so I got my daughter to quickly do it for me. All seems to be working now though. If anyone has any good apps for watching TV with in the UK apart from my5, all4, BBC iPlayer, Netflix, prime video and UK TV Play that would be fab.
