Hello, On onctober 15 2013 my wife and I moved in to our new house. We love the house, and wouldn't change it for anything, however there is a minor prlblem that needs addressing. Well the thermastat that controls the central heat and air system is digital, filled with menus and programming and is not accessible! Does anyone know, and could reccomend an accessible alternitave? This model is a hunter and I have neard the nest is accessible. If we can opperate the thermastat its self, that's fine, if we need to use the phone, that's fine too, but we can't keep having people come to program it, or change the battery, or change the filter. We have no way to know if any of that needs done.
Thanks,
Darrell

Hi,
i'm not exactly sure if this is still being sold, but a few years ago, there was a completely accessible talking thermostat that told you all the prompts from programming it, to setting the time, to tell you when things need servicing or changing, etc. I think it is still being sold today, but am not exactly sure.

Hi there! Please go and check out http://talkingthermostats.com. I have had a talking thermostat for about 10 years now. It works great; the only bad thing is that I have to have my apartment complex maintenance staff change the batteries, but thankfully, they don't need changing very often. Chances are, there are lots of newer, better models than the one I'm using. Good luck!

Um, how do you know if the model is compatible with your heating and air system?
I listened to the instruction video, and I am very impressed! I actually thought it would cost more than it does. Keep the suggestions coming though, the more options, the better, but this first one looks very good!
Thanks!
Darrell

Hello,
I just want to say thanks for the apple vis community responding. I think I've decided on the VIP 3000. THe nest application seems to be one of those things that requires a lot of head ache to set up, and I don't need that. Also, I talked with the guy who I guess is the manager of talking thermostats, and he said that if the VIP 3000 was not compatible, that they would refund the full purchase price.
I don't expect there to be a problem.
Thanks,
Darrell
PS I'll let you know how it goes!

Sounds great. If i was in the market for a new thermostat, then I would buy a VIP thermostat. You'll have a great working thermostat from all I've seen/read about them.

I have been using the VIP talking thermostat for years now and so have some friends of mine. The thing is just fabulous and works well. I like the fact that you can program it for different times of day, which is a money-saver. Highly recommended.

We have two heating/cooling zones in our hoe and installed two of these about 8 years ago. They are easy to program, easy to use and easy to change the batteries. Best of all, they work flawlessly. And while we all love our ability to control things from our handheld devices, why use your iPhone to change the temperature when you can simply push a button on the thermostat.
