Hi AppleVis Team,
I really like AppleVis so much, that there should be a section where people can comment or ask Orientation And Mobility questions. This can be very useful if people are looking for cane recommendations. Or even navigation apps that can help people navigate their community. I'm visually impaired myself, so having this option would be super beneficial for me.
What do you all think of this? Is that something you would like to see in the near future? I'd like to hear your ideas on this!
Thanks and hope you have a great rest of your day.
Comments
No please
Even if applevis has become r/blind in spirit for many people, please keep it technology centered in the letter at least. PLEAASE. We don't need this to become more of a blind wirdos social platform than it already is.
no
This should be about Apple and that is it. I was against the expansion into all the other forum categories and still am.
Check out this thread
To the OP, you might like the following thread, it's all about mobility.

@TheBlindGuy07,
Don't pretend you don't love it.
@Dennis Long,
Shhh, it's OK to like something that doesn't have the Apple logo on it. π
Feedback Appreciated
Hi Ayub,
First, thank you as always for your feedback and your kind support of AppleVis.
Discussion of canes and other navigation tech is welcome on AppleVis and would fall under our Assistive Technology forum. This forum is our broadest in scope and generally covers any type of product that can be used to improve the lives of blind, DeafBlind, and low vision people--from smart glasses, to note takers, to color identifiers, to magnifiers, to canes (both smart and traditional) and anything in-between.
Discussion of navigation apps is welcome in the forum for whatever platform you are using.
Regarding creating a place to ask more general O&M questions, while I don't want to say "never," I do not currently see AppleVis broadening the scope of discussions on our site to include general blindness topics beyond technology. For general discussions relating to blindness, I recommend R/Blind on Reddit.
I think Apple voice is good the way it is now
I think Apple VIS is good the way it is right now. Iβve definitely seen discussions about canes in the assistive technology section of before. I definitely donβt know why there were some people who were so against having any forums beyond Apple because a lot of us use multiple platforms so it hasnβt changed to the website runs so itβs just been added categories of discussion.
This thread instead of a category
As this thread already exists, it might serve as a substitute for a dedicated forum meanwhile, focusing on orientation and mobility apps and features. I would agree that the discussion about that topic is somewhat underrepresented, especially in comparing existing apps and features. Existing apps may contribute differently to orientation. I am writing this as a developer, and for me it is sometimes difficult to understand, what apps people actually prefer to use for what purpose and why. That kind of discussion has the potential to improve products. (improving existing products is btw. underrated in my opinion. app development is too much driven by the need of presenting new apps).
