Audio hosting

What would be the chance of adding the ability to post audio clips to the forum? Audio is easy to compress without much loss of perceived quality, and I think it would make it easier to provide high quality accessibility walkthroughs without having to rely on third-party platforms, plus I did check and noticed that AppleVis is already either hosted on or at least served by CloudFlare which does offer this kind of distributed service.

I'd like a platform where I could share blind coding audio clips with the community, and I think this would be a perfect place to do it.

Especially audio demonstrations of the infinite amount of bugs on macos, I really want this in the tba community bug tracker.

No, this is what podcasts are for. I don't want an audio platform where we can post especially what I'm seeing going round with jacket.fm now. It would be a dlindy fest all over again! Plus, I prefer to read thank you very much.

Have to agree, audio hosting in this case, wouldn’t be necessary. Not just that, but in most cases, reading is faster. That, and yes, that’s what podcast are for.

I completely get that but I hope at least for bug reports we can send the audio demos too and they can be published alongside the report after review from the team obviously...

Then send a link to the audio file if you wanna include it. That simple. Not that hard. There's dropbox, google drive, I think ICloud you can do the same thing.

Regarding text, while I do agree mostly with the comments saying that it's the best way to convey content since it's relatively easy to browse when properly structured and can be read by a speech synthesizer configured to our liking, certain concepts are hard to convey through that. The sighted often use visual representations to convey abstract concept structures, and as a formerly sighted person myself, I find it very powerful to use my visual cortex as a canvas where I can draw and transform 2D and 3D geometric shapes in order to wrap my head around new logic or keep track of what's happening in a data structure or graphical representation of a function. While graphically conveying concepts to a blind community probably doesn't make much sense, I think that audio could serve as an alternative replacement in some cases.

Regarding sharing content from other platforms, while that's indeed an obvious option, the result is that if for some reason the content on those platforms is made unavailable or the URIs change, the links we provide here will be broken.

Hi João and all,

João, thank you for the idea. We appreciate any and all suggestions and feedback, even if it isn't something that lends itself well to our platform--it's someone sharing the idea that counts.

For now, audio hosting is not something that we are looking to implement (though again, we appreciate your suggestion and perspective). If people want to share a quick demo to help answer a question, they are welcome to include a Google Drive link or similar with their reply; though we ask that these type of demos please only be in response to an existing topic or discussion.

Thanks again for the idea, and please do keep the feedback coming.

Best,
Michael
