Programming and App Development
Hello.
I just want to thank whom ever submitted the VoiceOver user's guide to xcode. I found this guide most helpful.
I can't wait to start using interface builder. This guide was very well written. I'm sure this guide has helped a lot of people.
so, uh, i really don't no ware to put this, mods move if need-be.
but i've seen some arguments, even been in a few myself, about AI vibe-coding.
I'm aware of the fact that this is is a very controversial topic
but i want to know your thoughts on the matter.
Hello everyone, My name is Ricardo Abad. I am blind and enjoy playing guitar.
Over the past few months, I have been developing VICTORIA, a free guitar tuner built according to the principles of universal design.
The idea behind VICTORIA is simple: to provide a single tool that people who are blind, have low vision, or have no visual impairment can use, allowing each user to choose how they receive information while tuning.
Three Ways to Tune Your Guitar
VICTORIA offers three main modes:
Audio Guidance, using a variety of audio cues.
Hi,
So I have entered my file (main.m), and I am able to successfully modify it, however, after Pressing "cmd + r", (the program runs successfully, but I don't know where the output is.
In addition, if I make a deliberate Mistake, I am told that the "build failed", but I am not told where The issue was.
A final question, how would I create a "main.h" file and quickly navigate to it?
Thanks
Hi,
I am looking for a few people to help me Beta test VisionAssist v2. If you are unfamiliar with VisionAssist, there is some information here: http://visionassist.slinkyware.com/
V2 includes a new user interface, the ability to save screen shots, and a bunch of other features. If you are interested in Beta testing this for a week please contact me by here: http://visionassist.slinkyware.com/contact-us/ and tell me what Apple device you have.
Hello,
We're building an app that is using OpenCV and has a canvas to display what the camera is seeing to sighted users.
For some reason, when the camera is on, VO lags so much between swipes, the app becomes almost unusable.
We are testing on an IPhone 8 and 6S.
Any idea what is causing the lag? Apps like SeeingAI use computer vision combined with a visual view like we are doing, so something like this should be possible. Is there some way of managing threads that could maybe help?
Hi People
I have been playing around with Xcode for the last few months and have got pretty much most things working in order to create a basic iOS app. However, I have come across a baffling situation when trying to work with gesture recognisers using voice over in the iOS simulator.
I am busy building a swift app and making it accessible.
I am having trouble with the tabbar voice over selected state.
When clicking on the tabbar item the first time, the voice over focuses on the navigation item, which is perfect, however, when navigating through the app and the user clicks the tabbar item again, the voice over focus remains on the tabbar.
I have already tried UIAccessibilityPostNotification(UIAccessibilityScreenChangedNotification) in the viewDidAppear method of the viewcontroller, but this does not reset the focus to the element I want.
I developed a Gmail reading app, "Reader+ for Gmail" (https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=959397919&mt=8) that reads a user's Gmail messages to them. One of my customers recently had an issue with VoiceOver becoming too quiet when the voice speaking the Gmail messages started. Enabling or disabling VoiceOver's audio ducking feature did not seem to help in this case.
Hi Apple Vizzers,
We're working on an entirely eyes free cooking app called: Yes, Chef. You can search for recipes, step through the cooking instructions, and ask questions about the ingredients. A couple of examples:
"chef, what do I set the oven to?"
or "chef, how many cloves of garlic do I need"
Who want's to be swiping with VoiceOver when your hands are covered with food?
VoiceLink Beta Testers Wanted
A new accessible way to connect
Hey everyone,
Iād love to invite the AppleVis community to help beta test VoiceLink, a new communication platform being built with accessibility and flexibility at its core.

Hi, I'm a web developer and I'm developing in the Safari (WebKit) environment.
I've been using role="text" for VoiceOver focus behavior on iPhone & iPad, but have noticed that it hasn't been working properly since iOS v17.2
I learned that role="text" is a deprecated practice and was eventually removed from the ARIA specification.
Until then, we were using role="text" to merge HTML text focuses into one.
Is there anything like UIAccessibilityTraitAllowsDirectInteraction for web pages?
I'm trying to add VoiceOver support to a web game. The game is a rhythm game where you have to tap different corners of the screen to the beat of a song, so I need access to the touch events as the player taps the screen. Unfortunately VoiceOver intercepts all the events.
If this was a native iOS app, I would use UIAccessibilityTraitAllowsDirectInteraction to enable direct interaction, but I can't find how to do that from HTML or JavaScript. Is this possible?
Hey all,
Does anyone know how to adjust VoiceOver tone more selectively than the simple adjustment of pitch and intonation offered by shift-control-option-command VoiceOver settings on Mac or the equivalent in IOS? I know about the Apple music app EQ options, but does anyone know of any other way native to Apple?
