Would you use chest mount for iPhone and be my eyes?

I recently tried the Meta ray-ban sunglasses. Unfortunately, I found them to be uncomfortable. So, I won’t continue using them.

Conceptually, they’re a great product. Not quite ready for prime time though. I think they need to be about 20 g later. I think there’s other smart glasses coming down the pipeline. Those are fundamentally going to be Google and Apple. Until then, I was thinking about getting a chest mount or chest band and putting my iPhone 16 Pro on it. That way, I’ll have easy access to using something like be my eyes and be my AI without having to take it out of my pocket every single time.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Are there any recommendations? Generally looking for something that’s unobtrusive. If you have suggestions for other smart glasses, or even making the Meta glasses more comfortable, I would be open to feedback.

I imagine it would work. Not that I would do it though.

Wander how safe it will be? Someone could grab it and attempt to still it. In the process you could get hurt. Today you never know.

People can annd often do snatch it out of your hand. Realistically, it’s not in a position where people could just take it. It’s in a harness that is a holder. It’s locked into place.

People can do steel AirPods, they steal, smart glasses, nothing is without risk. This is just an idea.

Hi Ash,
I just heard about this on the Double Tap podcast. And I know the spelling is a bit weird, but that's the right one, I've just googled it. Apparently it's a good one. As for the Meta Ray-Bans, there are three different styles: Wayfarer, Skyler and headliners. Apparently the Skylers are the lightest. Did you try all three types or just the standard wayfarer ones? They don't vary in functionality, it's just the style. I'll probably get a chest mount or something when I get my new iPhone 16 Pro, because no pair of smart glasses is good enough for me. The ones for the blind are too expensive, and the Meta Ray-Bans don't have the look and tell feature here in the UK. So a Pro with a chest harness is the best option for me at the moment. As for the possibility of something getting stolen, if I lived my life worrying like that, I'd never go out or do anything.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. However, I’m not finding it. I wonder if it’s only available in the UK. I am in the USA myself. I agree though. It’s important to not put obstacles in front of ourselves. It’s just important to try new things.

Ash Rein, I don't know much at all about the chest mounts, I clip the phone to my shirt collar for Facetime sometimes. Someone on here had their iPhone attached to their shirt with a magnet mount in their pocket. I think it was Andy at the duck pond. That sounded interesting to me, if the magnet was strong enough, and I could use the screen-side camera for the app.

I would love to use the phones camera facing out. Ultimately I think it would work better for now. Smart glasses are just not quite there yet. I want to love the meta glasses. They’re just too uncomfortable.

Would a lanyard work for you, or is that not stable enough for your needs? I remember a while back, iPhone lanyards were all the craze. This was probably back in the days of like the iPhone 6 or earlier. 🤷🏽‍♂️

as I understand it, yes. I will have to get back to you on a link, but I have a friend with an iPhone 16, the base model, not a pro or anything, but she has a type of lanyard that is worn like a messenger bag. In other words, over the shoulder and around the waist diagonally.
Hope I explain that right. Ha ha

Sorry the mount I suggested isn't available where you are. I did Google the Sigandg phone chest mount, and I got results from Amazon UK and Amazon Brazil I think, but Amazon US didn't come up. I've heard of people using lanyards too. That might be another option for you.

I think you might want to look in to VLogging accesaries. Lot of youtubers and such use different kind of mounts for their cameras, and sometimes that camera is an iPhone.
My doubts stem from my own tendencies to walk in to doors and walls and desks chest/stomach first, and I don't think my expensive iPhone can take that kind of abuse, even with a protective case. It's the same reason I am hesitant about Apple Watch. I use a braille watch currently, and I've scraped it so many times on doors and walls while walking around.
I've also walked in to tables and chairs thyes first, right where my jeans pocket for phones is. So, yeah. I live rough and my gadgets have a rough ride.

After speaking with my friend, her lanyard may not be right for you. They do have Crossbody lanyards, that are just that, a lanyard. They also have Crossbody MagSafe charging lanyards, and Crossbody bags that also hold an iPhone. Hers is that last one.

Still think a lanyard would suit your needs, just maybe not hers. 😅

I 100% would. You could possibly get a GoPro chest mount, that's what I've heard of another blind guy using. It would be so much more convenient than just holding your phone up.

So I found the following. ONe is a case and then there is a cross body/lanyard. You can make it as long or short as wanted. Similarly, it is apparently very very table. So, it hugs the chest. It is primarily used for taking photos and videos. However, for my purposes, it can also be used to engage be my eyes and be my ai. What do you guys think?

That case seems to have some poor reviews by other users, so you may want to reconsider that one, however that leash seems absolutely amazing and quite versatile.
