Hello everybody
I want to take the opportunity to say a huge Thank You to everybody who make Applevis.com working so extremely well. Especially to those visually empaired people who created podcasts and wrote helpful articles and who are still doing so.
4 years ago, in July, I held my first iPhone in my hand. It was a 5C. To me it was a useless flat thing. During April that same year I heard about Applevis.com from a blind iPhone user. I downloaded a good couple of podcasts and there were many. Those I prefered tought me about VoiceOver settings, iPhone settings, Home Screens and finger gestures etc. etc. The most important: In the cumfort of my own home and in my own sweet time I quickly discovered that the useless flat thing become a world of information. For leisure and education. Thanks to all of you dedicated soles I turned from a beginner to an advance user. I don't think you realize fully how extremely helpful and important the efforts are you put in here.
All the best

Wow
I was told about AppleVis at the ge of 9, and that's when my parents gave my first iPad Mini, which actually survived for pretty long, but now there is a crack running from the home button to the top middle of the screen.
Anytime I remember that iPad and the days of learning VoiceOver, I feel bad that I had to end our relationship at iOS 9.3.5.
On December 25, 2017, I held my first iPhone 6S, which is what i'm typing with.
It felt so light, but so capable at the same time.
Ever since then, I remember my iPad was what lead me to AppleVis.
In fact, I actually stumbled on this website on accident in 2015 and later found myself with an account that I barely even knew I created.
I love this site, and I always will.
applevis is the best.
I would like to thank you for creating this amazing webside!
it is the best webside for getting info for iPhone, and other apple products for VI people.
I 2nd that
I 2nd that!! A big THANK-YOU FROM ME TOO!!!!
Here's my testomony of sorts.
I haven't used Apple stuff for long. For 2 or 3 years give or take. I got my ipad in June of 2016. I'd heard of these things and I always scoffed: `How the heck would that be useful to me?!` Dad got Mom 1 for Christmas 1 year and said it was for both me and Mom. I'd scoffed and then I started hearing about things, but still cynical. I mean it's a touchscreen!! I'm blind! How is a blind person able to use something that sighted people use every day, whether at the self-checkout, or on the phone op tablet?!
Fast-forward a few years. I got a very small amount of training on Voiceover my senior year of high school, and started believing it, after seeing it with my own 2 eyes. Then, 2 weeks prior 2 graduating my braille device was taken from me at the VERY last-minute!! Parents got me an ipad for a grad gift, and to not replace my braille device, but so I could do things I did with independence that I did with my braille device, like checking email and jamming to music and importantly, reading!! I got help at my Apple store, but it was a crash course. I had to figure it out on my own. I wasn't a stranger to that, as I had taught myself to use my braille device, so I was used to self-training. Voiceover was a different beast!! It was complicated, and I had to work backwards most times! I'd run into issues, and I'd have to figure out how to fix it! Then, I'd repeat the problem to see if I could fix it again until I learned what I was doing. The man at the Apple store gave my parents and me a number for accessibility support. As the store was a little over an hour ride from my house! So it wasn't easy to pop in when they were open. I relied on the kindness of tech people's hearts. Then, I met someone, and they asked if I'd heard of AppleVis. I was shocked and surprised, as I hadn't heard of this site! Until then, I'd been trying to find any tutorials I could to learn about Vo.!! Well, I came here that same day and was hooked! I created an account that day too!! Ever since, I check this site multiple times a day!! I learned orientation lock, how to use the Kindle app. I have heard of MANY VERY WONDERFUL apps such as Weather Gods and Seeing Ai. just to name a few!! I learned how to use them here too!!
I even learned about Braigo here too I think. I followed it from when it was just a web app to look at other people's images to the Ios. app it is now!! And that's only the tip of the iceberg!!
I'm hoping to get a braillenote and a braille display soon. As braille is a very important part of my life, and has been since I was 6 months old!! And I'm hoping to get a mac as well! And when I get them, I will come here for help in learning to use them with ipad and Mac. And I will come here for help with my Mac too in learning to wowk it!
Once again, I thank you guys as well! I hope this site says runnin
sorry for length
I'm sorry for the lengthy post, but I thought you guys should hear my story, so that you could see how much of a true difference you're making for me and millions of others!! I know it's been 2 or 3 years, but I don't consider myself an expert on Vo. by any means! I still consider myself a noobie!! And I have 0 doubt that I will continue learning through this site as versions of Ios. are released, knew apps are added/talked about, etc. Whether through the forum, podcasts, guides, app entries, or your blog.
My Testimony and Thank You
I believe it was my brother who first told me about this site. Actually I think he forwarded me an email from a list that he was on. Then I got my Mac in 2013 for Christmas, which is kinda a story inandof itself. I had used the AppleIIE back in the day, and liked it. Then I jumped ship and went to DOS and then when Windows came along I used that. But when my parents approached me over the Thanksgiving weekend of 2013 about getting a Mac with VoiceOver, I was less than enthusiastic. I had previously listened to a 4-part review of the MacBook Air done by Mike Calvo of Serotek. He was very detailed and did a great job. But I'd otherwise been hearing only bad things about VoiceOver, thus my less-than-enthusiastic response to the parentals. But my mom and I attended a training session at our Apple store location not long after acquiring mine, and the guy with whom I worked did an outstanding job. As it turns out a sister of mine also worked with him, before he got promoted.
Regarding iOS, my parents and I were a bit skeptical at first because of my coordination trouble. But my brother referred us to Second Sense here in Chicago, which was The Guild for the Blind. So my mom and I went down there and met with one of the guys who does their technology. He showed me his iPhone, which had Siri and VoiceOver up and running. To cut a long story short, he hooked us up with one of their volunteer tutors, and I had 2 sessions with him which were very productive. I have since done some more things on my iPhone 7. These devices are really cool. I'm beginning to see why people say the iPhone has changed their lives. I have a few 3rd-party apps on there, but due to a busy social life I've not had much time to use them. But I'd like to add my big thank you to everybody responsible for the fantastic work that has gone into AppleVis. I was at a meeting at the end of May where I saw 2 of my former teachers, and they both know about and love AppleVis. They've been trying to get 2 of their visually impaired transition students to come on here. Hopefully that'll happen very soon, and hopefully my sister can sign up on here as well. All righty then, I know this has been rather long, so take care all and talk soon.
I agree
I especially love the games aspect of the site. I had one game starting with my 4s and didn't know where to find other games. But I somehow found this awesome website and love it.
I have gotten a lot out of my iPhone from this site and I now have an iPhone se and my iPad pro and I play games and use apps like pros. I don't have a computer but can iuse my iPad as though it was.
People on here are so helpful wich makes me happy. If I have a problem with something people are AL_WAYS there to help me. I love apps and I find lots of them on here.
I have made some podcasts for AppleVis and am planning to do many more.
I to love this website
I all. I have just been reading through some of these posts and I to feel the same way. I believe this website is the best one for blind and visually impaired people when it comes to getting assistance for the various apple products available. I began using an iPhone 4 back in 2012, followed a year or so later by an iPhone 5c, followed by the SE and now an 8 plus. I truly believe the iPhone is the best device I've ever used as a blind person. I literally haven't used my bulky laptop in about two years, as I can accomplish everything I want to on my phone which is just as fast and so much smaller and lighter than my computer. I believe one day phones and tablets may take the place of bulky laptops. But, I digress. Thank you so much Applevis for all you have given the blind and visually impaired community over the years, and I look forward to many more years to come.
Truly appreciated
Thank you for sharing some great stories and for letting us know how AppleVis has been of value and help. It truly means a lot to know that our community is making a difference.
