Hello everyone,
I rarely see any conversation about movie or TV shows that are on the Apple TV platforms. I was wondering if we could start a conversation of some favorite shows or movies and discuss them? Of course, if there are any spoilers, please put your spoiler warnings before the spoiler! I have recently begun watching dark matter on Apple TV. I am up to episode five. I really enjoyed this show! This show has a very Science Fiction vibe and it deals with multi versus. I really enjoy this topic so this show is right up my alley!
I would also like to mention that all shows and movies on Apple TV platforms typically have an audio description track.

I would also like to recommend the changeling. This was a very good show that deals with a lot of. Mythology and witchcraft from other countries and religions being brought by immigrants to the United States. It’s a very interesting concept, and it is based on a novel of the same name by Victor Lavalle.
Please feel free to share some of your favorite Apple TV shows and movies and let’s get a discussion going around some of the good entertainment that is out there and accessible for us! :-) Stay well
Hope everybody has a good weekend

I've been watching quite a bit of Apple TV recently.

I absolutely loved Severance - it's the best thing I've seen on TV for ages. And For All Mankind is excellent too.

Also enjoyed Servant and Silo. I'm sure I'm forgetting one of my favourites.

I tried Changeling. First episode was quite good, then I must have been tired watching the second one as I think I fell asleep, then didn't know what the hell was going on when I got to episode 3 and stopped. I must give it another try from the start.

I finished Dr Brain recently which took a while to grow on me. I think when Apple have foreign language films the dubbing isn't great - it sounds very monotone and emotionless.. So that didn't help - I also had that problem with Pachinko.

I've got quite a lot on the list like Dark Matter, Foundation, Constellation etc.

On the whole I think the quality of Apple TV Shows tend to be pretty good.

In the end, but the thing...the thing is mental! It you can get over it it is good in the end.

I love the film Argyle , people said it was silly, but it is a comedy.

I've loved every series of For All Mankind. Criminal Record, Hijack and the Legacy of Monsters thing was OK to. Constellation was a bit to weird.

Most of these are science fiction, but there are also some really good historical shows to.

The AD is very good.

This is not necessarily a new show/film, but it was the last thing I watched via AppleTV. It is based off of a Stephen King book of the same name, and deals with multiple worlds/alternate realities. Both the book and show are good, for what it's worth.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, I am more of a book lover than a film lover these days, so while I have not paid much attention to cinema, I have been reading books like they are going out of style. 😊

Forgot about Ted Lasso. I know everyone says that but it was very enjoyable even if it did get a bit cheesy at times.

Also Slow Horses is fantastic - Gary Oldman is brilliant in it. Nice mix of intriguing story, fun characters and a bit of ineptitude thrown in.

We also watched Monarch recently. When I could see, I just loved big dumb monster films. Although I never watched much Godzilla beyond the cartoons in the 80s with Godzuky I loved watching everything from the big budget Jurassic Parks, to Cloverfield, to the stupid little Syfy films like 3 headed shark attack or mega random sea creature vs giant other type of monster. I do miss the absurdity of things like Sharktopus - watching a shark get up onto the beach and run along it with its waving octopus legs was a real highlight. But since going blind I've not even tried - most of the low budget films won't have AD I'm sure. Anyway, Monarch is much more serious and high budget than that and listening to it did make me yearn to be able to see what the hell was going on. But even so I still enjoyed what little I could get out of it and will be watching season 2 for sure.

And talking of old dinosaurs, Shrinking was pretty good too.

Love the sci fi stories that they did. It was an old TV show that Apple did it again.

By Brian on Friday, June 14, 2024 - 13:31

Was kinda like Twilight Zone, and kinda not. They also did a movie version with a young Patrick Swayze, if memory serves.

By Holger Fiallo on Friday, June 14, 2024 - 13:31

If you are talking about my comment, yes. Never did see the movie.

By Brian on Friday, June 14, 2024 - 13:31

I was indeed. I grew up watching shows like Amazing Stories. 😀

I'm browsing this thread, hoping to find something that interests me, since I have a two-month free trial. So far, nothing has caught my attention. I've watched a few things on the platform before, like the first episode of "Amazing Stories" and the movie "Wolfwalkers", which I enjoyed. "Wolfwalkers" is a great film about a girl who can transform into a wolf at night, but it's more like her spirit leaves her body to roam free as a wolf while her body sleeps. I also started watching "Ghostwriter" but only got through the first episode. I tried to watch "See" and "For All Mankind" but couldn't get past the first episode of either show. I'll keep exploring to see what else I can find to watch during my trial.

Watch the William Shakespeare movie that it came out several years. I do not watch to many movies about his plays but the movie was good.

Luck is a cute movie if you're into dancing rabbits and classic Pixar-like storytelling.

By Holger Fiallo on Friday, June 14, 2024 - 13:31

Do not forget about the greatest dog of all. Love that dog.

By Ollie on Friday, June 14, 2024 - 13:31

Silo is excellent, shrinking is fun and kinda powerful too, a little like a US version of After Life with the aftermath of a spouse's death.

There is certainly a style that comes through, all rather clean, focused on themes that align with apple's values. You won't get the break out hits of HBO because apple just won't go there... Which sometimes leaves things feeling a little gutless. \We have a similar problem here in the UK with BBC, sharp edges are blunted.

Another season of Severance is coming out. But with audio description, Season one was really good!

By Firefly on Friday, June 21, 2024 - 13:31

Here are the shows that I like. See, Ted Lasso, and there’s another show the name is escaping me right now, but if I go to my list, I know it’s gonna be there, and the name is gonna hit me as soon as I come across it basically about a man who lives with his family constantly on the run. They constantly have to change identities. I do also like the fact that Apple seems to be adding new or interesting movies each month that you can only watch for a limited time and then it switches up. Because honestly, I’ve been looking for more movies to watch on Apple TV.

I have to say my favorite was deffinatly see! Loved that one so much and I hate that they stopped after 3 seasons.

By mr grieves on Friday, June 21, 2024 - 13:31

Was that the Mosquito Coast? I haven't seen that yet but I vaguely remember that they changed the story of the book to be more about escaping the FBI.

I watched a couple of episodes of See and it didn't grab me and I stopped. Maybe should try it again.

The Big Door Prize is also quite a nice watch - pleasingly quirky.

By Assistive Inte… on Friday, June 21, 2024 - 13:31

I bet they still all had great makeup, never wore odd socks and nobody ever spilt anyting on there tops!

By Firefly on Friday, June 21, 2024 - 13:31

It most certainly is the mosquito Coast. Watched season one, was hooked, then I started to watch season two and put it down and haven’t picked it up for a really long time.

I went back to See after reading the positive impressions on here. I'd only managed 2 episodes before, and actually this time once I got to episode 3 it started to click. I'm now 7 in, I think, and it's actually really good. It's maybe just a tad melodramatic and serious and just stops short of a deep booming voice telling me about a prophecy. But that aside, I'm grateful for the little nudge to give it another chance.

I also watched Constellation. The reviews said that it starts off well and then loses its way a little, which was pretty much my experience. It starts as a bit of a space disaster movie but just becomes more complicated and less interesting as it goes along.

I also watched The Last Thing He Told Me which was really good until about the last episode and then just left me feeling a bit unsatisfied. It's about a mother and her step daughter who try to find out what's happened to her husband who suddenly goes missing. I like complete stories that don't drag on for multiple seasons. With a stronger ending I'd recommend this a bit more.

Just started Foundation so will be interesting to see where this goes.

I'm looking forward to Presumed Innocent and Sunny afterwards.

I've got to say that I am really impressed with the quality of shows they have on Apple TV.

And Severance season 2 starts in January which I can't wait for.

Hi everyone, I don’t see much talk about movies or shows on Apple TV, so let’s share our favorites. If you have spoilers, please warn us!

I started watching Dark Matter and I'm on episode five. I love it! It’s a sci-fi show about multiverses.

I also recommend The Changeling. It’s about mythology and witchcraft from immigrants, based on a book by Victor Lavalle.

Do I need to say more?

By Ollie on Saturday, September 21, 2024 - 13:31

Also, interesting to some, audio description is included in dolby Atmos. I believe it is the only streaming service that does this. Disney drops it to 2.0, netflix goes to 5.1, but, if you want audio description with the best possible audio, it's apple TV plus all the way.

By mr grieves on Saturday, September 21, 2024 - 13:31

I'm a good way into See now and it has become one of my favourites on Apple TV. It is perhaps a bit Game of Thrones light, but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable. For an evening watch when I'm tired, having a slightly less convoluted plot is a good thing. I stopped as I've just been too tired in the evenings to cope with anything like this as I know I'll just doze off but I need to get back into it. I'm really grateful for the encouragement on here.

I'm a fair way into Foundation now and it's pretty good. Again I think sometimes I am just a bit too tired and some episodes have washed over me. I definitely lost the plot a few episodes ago but have got back into it. Worth a go for anyone into big space epics.

I've also been watching Trying, which is a warm-hearted comedy about a couple trying to adopt a child in London. It's not exactly challenging, but is quite a nice gentle watch and is quite funny at times. A little bit like a lighter Ted Lasso I suppose.

By CritterPup on Saturday, September 21, 2024 - 13:31

I really enjoyed this show. And it helps it's the only show I've seen on Apple TV+. The rest all seem insufferable to me.

By Charlotte Joanne on Saturday, September 21, 2024 - 13:31

I loved it. I wonder if some people forgot it was a comedy!

Now Sugar. Sugar was mental!

I am looking forward to the next season of Severence. And I hope For All Mankind comes back...
