comments on the site not being tweeted.

Hi, I am not keen on the change made to the site to stop tweeting comments to the site. I accept they generate a high volume of traffic, so perhaps a separate twitter account could be created for applevis that tweets comments. I know you can subscribe to particular topics or apps if you want, but managing email subscriptions is a pain and I think its much better if we get a tweet when there is a new comment on an app or forum topic. I believe that stopping tweets means its more likely people will miss out on comments and things of interest, as at least speaking for myself i'm not going to keep checking the site several times a day just on the off chance something has been posted that I might find interesting it would mean wading through allot of text, I find twitter much more convenient for keeping track of the site. Perhaps you could even break it down to 3 accounts, the main applevis account, then one for app comments and a third for forum post tweets.

It's nice to see someone else thinks this way as well. As much as I appreciate having RSS feeds and email subscriptions as has been said before, Twitter is much more convenient. You could break it down into several accounts as has been suggested, or just keep the hashtags that you had in place. Most modern clients have some sort of ability to either mute tweets with those hashtags or put them in a separate tab. You could also do what you're doing with recommendations where you tweet once, say, every 5 comments, but maybe that should be the case only for hot topics.

I too, like the tweets. Often someone will reply to something I had missed, or someone will leave a comment with an update to an app, the original post being years before. I too, dislike email subscriptions, way too cluttered. I rarely use email at all anymore. Twitter is just so concise and simple. Just wanted to add my agreement. Recently there were a lot of replies to a game post but I just skipped past them. I'd rather have too much content on Twitter than not enough.

I personally find the email subscription feature rather awkward in terms of the wording of the check boxes, and vastly prefer Twitter for keeping track of comments.

As others on our Editorial Team will happily confirm (cough, "AnonyMouse"), I have a major problem with having multiple AppleVis Twitter accounts - we've been there before, and it caused us administrative head-aches, was confusing for some people, complicated matters when it came to reaching out to people via Twitter, and was actually seriously under-used in terms of followers. However, I do appreciate that some people find Twitter a convenient way to keep up-to-date with what's happening on the site, so our no longer tweeting alerts of new comments will be a loss to them. From the comments posted above, it might seem logical to simply reinstate the tweets. However, there were many people who tweeted that they were pleased to see our decision. So, it's unlikely that we will find a solution that satisfies everybody. What I can do, however, is point you towards @AppleVisXL, a new Twitter account that will only be used to tweet alerts of new comments being posted to the site. It will not be monitored, so be sure to keep following the @AppleVis account and use that as our main point of contact on Twitter.  I should also stress that this is just a trial for now … we'll monitor how things go, so don't necessarily expect this to become a permanent arrangement.

its great to see that this is being tried anyway. Does the xl account also tweet comments on apps, or is this still handled by the normal applevis account?
The @AppleVisXL account will tweet alerts for all comments/replies posted to the site. This is all that will be tweeted to that account and the only account to which these will be posted.

Hi, OK that's great. To be honest my main issue with the comments is that I like getting notifications of app comments and also when new apps are posted to the site. I am not so bothered about the forum, but its nice to have it as well. But my main interests are comments on apps, and when new apps are posted to the site. I could quite easily lose forum comments and be happy if app comments and new app posts were kept, though happy to keep getting forum comments at the moment.
We previously added hashtags to the majority of our tweets so that people could use the mute facility to fine-tune what they wanted in their timelines. Unfortunately, many Twitter clients don't support this feature and some people simply aren't aware of it. The @AppleVisXL tweets will also contain hashtags, so there still exists the ability to customise what appears in your timeline. So, hopefully this will be as close to a satisfactory solution as we can get.
Thank you so much for trying the second Twitter account! You guys run such a great and helpful site. Thanks for all your hard work!

We do indeed have to give David a hand. A big thanks for keeping this alive for those like us. I know I personally pushed hard to get this new Twitter account. Isn't that right David? ;) So give David a big thanks plus be sure to follow the NEW Twitter account. This will let us know of a gauge of how many people really do like this service.

If you filter out applevis in the time line you will see a new twitter account called applevisXL This is where all the replies go and you can view what's what and stuff. Take care.
