Windows and VMWare Fusion

Hi.
On my old Mac I had Windows in a boot camp partition, and at one point also accessed it via VMWare Fusion, but that was a quite a while ago.
As I want to use some software that is only available on Windows, I was considering going the VMWare Fusion only route now, with no boot camp.
Is this easy enough to get set up?
Does it work well? And are there issues with screen-reader keyboard commands clashing with Mac VoiceOver commands, as I seem to remember having before?
Also I heard a rumour that VMWare Fusion is going away, anyone else heard this?
I assume Parallels is still not accessible as an alternative.
