weird vlc problem?

Hi folks, as the subject says I seem to be having this weird problem with vlc.
So, I'm in the Media Library table.
The way I've been opening my files/ folders, is to open them from within vlc.
When all the files are loaded, and I vo left, or right, all I hear is image..
I've reset vlc, but I still hear image, when vo left or right, within the files.
Note these are all audio files, I'm adding to vlc.
I've also tried cog, and I like that player, but there are just some mp3 files I have cog doesn't want to play.
