I’m a relative newcomer to the Mac, but I’ve noticed that the VO experience isn’t as smooth as it is on iOS. I’m writing this post on my iPad’s keyboard, that’s how intuitive I find the experience. Now, being a newcomer to Mac, it’s possible that I’m simply not used to VO on the Mac yet. But why does VO on the Mac feel so clunky? Has anyone else had this experience? I’m willing to learn how to make VO on the Mac a smooth experience, and not at all willing to buy and install a VM for Windows on my limited HD space.

VoiceOver on Mac
VoiceOver on macOS is definitely not as polished as it should be. The best experience was during the Snow Leopard days IMHO. Apple has been prioritizing iOS for years, and it shows. It's sad, because the Mac and VoiceOver have so much potential to do great things. Sadly, the people in Cupertino just don't care anymore.
I'm not holding my breath for Catalina to bring anything earthshattering or fix the longstanding issues like iOS 13 has. Oh, that's the other thing. For reasons only known by Apple employees, VoiceOver issues are ignored and may or may not be fixed in the next major version of macOS. This is unacceptable, and just goes to show that iOS definitely receives more attention.
I really hate to say these things, I really do. I love the Mac operating system and the potential VoiceOver has, but if the company is unwilling to listen to customers, fix issues, or improve the product in any meaningful way, I'm moving on.
macOS Is Not IOS
Forget about IOS and learn how to use macOS.
They are completely different environments.

My tips for MAC O. S.
This may not sound like much, but get a keyboard with a num pad and a track pad. Use num pad commander and track pad commander. Yes there will be more commands to learn but you will be much more productive after you learn them. This is what I use, an Apple USB keyboard and an external track pad. Now Apple has a blue tooth keyboard with a num pad that replaces the USB one.
