Hi all. i'm the admin user on my Mac, I went to users and groups, then down to log in options, checked the voice over box and clicked the lock. whenI restarted, voice over didn't speak. what did I do wrong? Thanks. I don't really need it on, but with a silent drive it's the only way i know something's happening.

It's a bug that a lot of users are experiencing, especially on the m1 models.

Hi,
I cannot confirm that VoiceOver keeps completely silent in the log in screen. Sometimes, on the one hand, it says something like "installation status" and, on the other hand, the normal VoiceOver description of the log in screen is spoken.
If you encounter the first case (VoiceOver saying installation status), just click at the left bottom of the trackpad (you will feel a haptic when doing that). This should position the VoiceOver focus in the right place.

I generally go days without rebooting my 2019 Mac Mini, but I encounter the login screen when waking the Mac from sleep mode. VoiceOver is either silent, or takes so long to say something that I lose patience. My workaround for this is to press some key to wake it, then Command+F5 which causes VoiceOver to announce VoiceOver is disabled, then Command+F5 a second time to re-enable it.

I had this happen. For some odd reason, turning File-Volt off seems to have made VO behave as desired.
