Using the character viewer.

Hi all.

Tips on using the character viewer? I don't think this matters, but my fn key doesn't work as the globe key, non-Apple keyboard, so I have text input in the status menu. So I pick that and then pick "show emoji and symbols". Here is where the fun begins.

1. How do I get to characters, i.e. accented letters, runes, hieroglyphics, and the like?

2. More importantly, what do I do when I get there?

Let me describe my experience with emoji, since I assume it will work the same way. I pick an emoji, a sun let's say, or if I pick a person I get a menu for skin tone, usually, and pick one of those. Then instead of anything useful, I get a system dialogue with empty content. I can't just pick it and hit cmd-c to copy, because they're all buttons.

I assume emoji and characters and all of the symbols work the same way, you'd copy and then paste them into your text file or email or message or whatever. How do you do that? Also, how do you favorite one of them? If there's anything else you can do in character viewer, I'd love to know all about it.

This is under the latest OS, 26.5.2, in case that matters.
Oh OK, if I pick more categories then "large window", that gives me more characters, still haven't found things like runes or hieroglyphics yet, I assume they're in there because all of the Unicode stuff should be and I know somebody who's on a Mac that's used runes in the past.

Also if I pick a character and hit enter, it seems to put it in the edit field. Still don't know how to favorite or such though. So I'd still love to know all of the things you can do in there. Thanks everybody for any help!
