Two strange things since updating to Yosemite

I wonder whether anyone can help with the following?

1. In the mail app, when I browse to a message showing as having an attachment, command Y doesn't bring up the quick look attachment window anymore. Has the way this feature works changed? I used to find it really handy and would be sorry not to have it available.

2. The messages app has caused my keyboard to behave very strangely. Basically, what happens is it causes the keyboard not to work. all the VO commands work, as well as command tab to move the focus from the messages app to somewhere else, but typing a message doesn't work, for example. This behaviour persists even when not in the messages app, and even when Voiceover is turned off and back on again. The only thing that gets rid of it is a full restart. Not a disaster as I don't know how much use I will make of my Mac for messages, but it would be nice if it worked.

Any thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

As unhelpful as this will be, I can't say I've encountered either problem. Have your run a disk permissions repair from Disk Utility? That sometimes clears up spurious issues like these.

I had this issue two while using the keyboard when I was doing was trying to use voice over to select the different conversations for some reason this was messing things up when you go to the conversation just stop interacting and go over or start typing then the second thing I noticed was you have to make sure voiceover is following your keyboard because of its follow your mouse that also tends to mess things up hope this helps.

I have the same problem with the messages app. Just got my Macbook air this week and that was the first problem I found which really annoyed me. The SMS relay seems a bit inconsistent. .

The problem with the keyboard after using Messages just appears when switching to another conversation. I really don't know what causes this but I hope it will be fixed soon.

I've not experienced the problem with the Messages app since I haven't used it yet, but I'm experiencing an issue with Mail too. I just upgraded to Yosemite last weekend with the help of someone, and whenever I log into my personal email account via the Mail program on the Mac, I keep getting prompted for my email password. This password was switched for some reason to the password for my Apple ID, and now I can't see any new messages. I just got off the phone with Nick from AT&T, and one thing he had me do was go to the AT&T mail site and see if I could access my messages from there. It worked all right but I only saw part of a few messages. But back to Mail. Has anyone else experienced not being able to access new messages when using the Mac's default email client?

A work around for the keyboard not working after using messages is the following:
As soon as the keyboard stops working, turn off trackpad commander, and do a single click with the trackpad and reactivate the commander. I haven't yet tried this myself but just thought I put this out there.

Thanks for all the comments. Clearly the messages issue at least is something that others have experienced too. I will try the work-around next time it happens, though oddly enough ever since I posted the forum topic I haven't had this issue! The quick look attachments issue, on the other hand, remains. As far as I can tell, it works with my personal email account, but not with my work email account. There seems no reason why this should be the case as it always worked before. I will run a disk permissions repair as suggested. Are there any consequences of running such a repair that I should know about and take measures against before I do? I have never done this before.

I have ran into the keyboard problem in Messages, I called Apple Accessibility and the person I spoke with was not aware of the bug. I was supposed to call back after trying some suggestions but haven't - I'll try the permissions repair and trackpad suggestions - by the way, logging off and logging back in will also fix the issue temporarily. I'll post this weekend after trying the other suggestions.
