Hello everyone,
Is there an accessible text editor for the Mac that when opened it automatically opens to a new document? I am looking for one similar to how EdSSharp or notepad works on the Windows side. I am really trying to like my mac but it is taking some getting used to. Also a quick question. Is there a email list for programmers on the Mac?

Pages and text edit I think.
Hi. I think Pages and text edit will do this. Let me check. Ok Text edit will definitely open in a blank new document. As for Pages, you can either show a list of templates, Blank, postcard, letter etc, or you can have it default to any template you'll use a lot. Hope that helps. Hope I made sense no coffee yet.

I don't know if you can change this, but in my case, if you open text edit, it will just allow you to open recent documents or make a new one. I just press command N and i'm ready. I don't need a settting that automatically makes a new document, but if there is one, that would be good for someone like Greg.

I don't think we can like a Mac .. we can only get used to it if we have no alternative like if you are a Apple platform programmer....
There is the mv-dev group on google for Blind Programmers for Apple stuff.
I don't know of a way to open a blank document duirectly on text edit. This is yet another Mac OS default anoiance you have to learn to deal with.
Textedit will also do stupid things such as encoding what was expected to be text files to a format that even the mac os it self can't handle if you try for example to write some code on textedit to run on a file on terminal.
Mac os is not a friendly system for blind programmers. You can live with it ... however you must get prepared to be strong and brave @ grin

I use and recommend TextMate for a code editor.
Either Text Mate, or Smultron
The two I can think of that are pretty usable for the blind would be either Text Mate, or Smultron.
You could try Emacs, and Emacs Speak, but good luck installing it, because that a nightmare.
I use Textmate for Ruby.
