Hi all,
I have noticed since updating to Ventura that in the German language Umlauts such as ä, ö, ü are not pronounced correctly accept for the elloquence voices.
I was able to recreate this issue in the apple store by opening a PDF-File and downloading any high quality vocalizer or Siri-voice.
It seems like the character encoding in Mac os accept for Mail and Safari is just set wrong. In Mail and Safari everything is read fine. In the Finder and in Preview the umlauts are read as wrong characters.
When I copy such text from a PDF into Textedit and manually delete the wrong Umlauts and replace them by manually typing them on the keyboard, they will get pronounced correctly.
I even tried to copy one of the wrong Umlauts and put them into the VoiceOver-Dictionary. But that does not do anything.
Is there a way to first of all check which encoding is used for Apps like Preview and Finder and seccondly is there a way to force Mac OS to use one paticular characterset?
Thanks for any help. I wrote to apple accessibility about that and they said they are looking into it but maybe there is something that can be done in the time until that is fixed by Apple.
Any help would be apreciated.
