Hi everybody. My apologies in advance if this has already been covered, but when doing a search I couldn't find any mention of it. I have been experiencing occasional speech stuttering on my Mac Book Air, and was wondering if anyone else is having this. I have a 13-inch machine and my sister has an 11-inch, and she hasn't been experiencing this at all. Tia for anyone's assistance.

Have you tried picking a different voice in VoiceOver Utility ¿

Hi jake,

This is normally indicative of a software issue or memory problem. Check the activity monitor under utilities, and see what it looks like. Is anything draining your resources, or using excessive amounts of CPU/memory?
Also, which model of MacBook Air do you have; how much memory, etc?

Thanks for your responses. Last night I uninstalled all voices except Alex, whom it appears can't be removed. Then just this morning I tried going into Activity Monitor but nothing appears to be taking up extra memory. I have a 13-inch Mac Book Air, mid-2013 model.

I would also check what's starting up and get rid of it.

  • Go to system prefs
  • go to users and groups
  • Unlock changes if necessary & go to log in items tab usually found in your own user account's name if you are an admin
  • remove what you don't want and restart.

Good luck.¬

Hello, I have had the same problem over the past days. My mackbook air is 13 inch and I haven't had it but for perhaps 2 weeks. Only thing I can think of I downloaded was a face book ap. I have also tinkered in systems preferences, looking around not changing anything, those are the only 2 things I have done.

Well, I'm pretty sure I discovered the culprit about a week ago. I had installed Chromevox just to see what it was like but a life-skills tutor helped get rid of it. That seems to have freed up a good amount of memory here. I still have Google Chrome itself though, and it works great with VoiceOver. I haven't had any problems since uninstalling Chromevox so I think that might have done it.
