Guys, I’ve never felt this uncomfortable using WhatsApp. If I’m in a conversation with only a few messages, VO generally works fine. But otherwise it’s terrible. I have custom hotspots for the chat list and messages list, and they work most of the time, but VoiceOver jumps out of the messages table too often, especially when I'm writing a message. Every time it stops interacting with the messages table, it doesn’t remember where it was, so when I interact again, I have to jump to the end to find where I left off. I often find myself using the item chooser to search for the message where I’m left off.
I sometimes try disabling the VoiceOver cursor, but it doesn’t help much. There are also some weird issues with VoiceOver in the app. For example, when searching for a chat using Command+F, if the VoiceOver cursor is on, whatever I type appears in reverse order—so if I type “Jasmine,” it shows as “enimsaj.”
I also tried using WhatsApp Web on three different browsers—Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Each one has problems and differences, but none of them work ideally. It just feels like VoiceOver is trying to take too much control, even on an accessible website. And since everyone in Turkey uses WhatsApp, I can’t just switch to iMessage—it’s not a thing here.
I don’t want to use my VM with Windows just for WhatsApp—that would be too funny. Is there any way to use this app the way it should work? Any ideas? I’m frustrated again…
