sluggish MS office

hi all,
I have a question regarding the MS office 2016. I notice that with each update, it becomes more sluggish. for instance I'm working now on a 40-page word file and voiceover keeps saying "word busy" and it's very sluggish. is anyone else encountering that? or maybe because my Mac has become old? I have a MacBook Air 2014.

No, it's a common problem as I know because I also ıncountered with that. Although I want to use MS Word on my Mac, I can not. I'm using a MacBook Air 2014 early 11 inch by the way.

yeah, that what I'm saying. maybe because our Mac version has become old so it's sluggish. I just wanna make sure that the other versions of Mac work well or have the same problem.
