Hi all.
So, I’m a fairly new mac convert but I’ve started to be comfortable with the mac for the most part. But Skype is really being a problem.
I’m sill not updated to Sierra and I use Skype for Mac 7.37.
I’ve always loved Skypes quick text chat on the PC. It sucked at times and we’ve had to fight to get it to that point where it works with Jaws and NVDA without fail.
But on this one I’ve lost all the fun of Skype. Whenever I am in a chat, VO will not read incoming messages automatically. Let me stop right there and say that yeah, I can go to the history scrollarea. But that takes time and is less than reliable. And yeah, I can open item chooser and read messages there. But what the hell?
I can’t be the only one with this problem. I read about someone with this problem on this website but I can’t for the life of me find that very discussion again.
If there is a way to configure the Skype settings to make it work as I would think is obvious and if someone could think of what might have gone wrong here I would be so grateful.
I have gone through the preferences and I think I’ve tried everything. I used Mitsuku to test stuff. And for a Bot, it’s quite funny actually. :)
Now… if Skype is a no go for me, I am wondering if there are any other chat clients I could try out. Adium is still not working with FB as I understand it so that’s out of the question. Are there any other out there?
Thanks for reading. :)

Hi Jen! I can't troubleshoot your problem with Skype for Mac, however, I can recommend a possible alternative. I'd look in your app stor* & see if Messenger has an app for Mac. It was created by Facebook, so it shoubd work a little better. I'm not an expert with the mac, so I can't tell you for sure that there's a messenger app on the app store for it. However, on my ipad it works good for sending messages as an alternative for texting & it's cross-platform. And if you use Skype for video calling, you can use Messenger for that too! You just have to make sure your microphone & camera access are turned on. Sorry I can't ansjer your question in troubleshooting Skype, but I really hope this helps.
Appstore is a jungle. :)
Thanks Dawn.
Yeah, one would think so but it doesn't seem like there's anything equivalent to what works on iPhone etc. There's hundreds of messenger apps but after trying a few of them I was too frustrated to bother. I honestly think that what I will do is run a virtual machine with Windows. It doesn't seem like I can get away from that after all. There are a few things I really like on windows and I can't seem to find a solution to the skype problem anywhere. In the end I have all my friends and family on skype and when it comes right down to it, I really don't like facebook. So... Sigh. I will have to consider myself defeated by Skype on the mac.
Until there is a change, if that ever happens, I'll work around it I suppose
Cheers.
