Reading Long Documents on the Mac

Hi all,
I'm starting University soon and have been given reading lists for my course. I'll be using a Mac when at University and will be expected to read many long documents.

My question is, what is the best way to read very lengthy documents on the Mac? Preferably I would use a Braille display but this is not ideal as the Braille support on the Mac seems to be a little lacking.

I'd also want to be able to create notes/highlights/bookmarks. One way I've done this is by converting it to a PDF document and moving it to Apple Books but reading using this method can be tedious and more difficult.

Any help would be really appreciated!
