Hi there,
I've been using this website as a resource to learn as much as I possibly can about my Mac since I purchased it about five months ago, but this is my first post here, so I ask that someone please inform me if this is the right place to pose my questions.
The first question I have is regarding creating folders, and moving things into them. I listened to a podcast here, but was unable to get what the guy did to work for me. It could definitely be that I just wasn't doing something right, but after listening to that podcast, I'm even now more confused on how this is done than I was originally. I recently downloaded a couple of scripts for Voice Over, and they're just sitting in my downloads folder. I'd like to make a folder just for storing them so I don't forget they're there and accidentally delete them or something.
Now that I've explained the situation with folders, I have a question about the mail application. When I open it and check my messages, Voice Over never puts me at the top of the list where the most recent messages are and I have to arrow up through probably close to two hundred messages or so just to get to the most current ones. Is there a way to set VO to actually be at the top of the message list upon opening the app, or is this just something I'm going to have to learn to deal with?
Looking forward to hearing from everyone soon. Have a great day!

folders and mail
To create a folder of scripts that you currently have in the downloads folder, follow these steps.
1. Go to the location where you want to add the new folder, such as desktop or documents, and press Command Shift N. Voiceover should announce, "New folder," and the name, "Untitled folder," should be displayed. Delete this text and give your folder a name that you want, such as Voiceover scripts and press return.
2. Go to your downloads folder, select the files you want to move, and press Command C to copy.
3. Go back to the folder you just created. To simply paste the files in your new folder and keep the original copies in your downloads folder, press Command V. If you want to move the files out of your downloads folder, press Command Option V. I know this sounds like a lot of steps, but if you have questions about selecting files, check out this guide to using the macOS Finder. https://www.applevis.com/guides/macos/getting-started-os-x-finder
In Mail, to go to the top of your message list, interact with the messages table and press VO Function left arrow to jump to the top. In addition, you can create mailboxes and rules to further organize your messages.
HTH
I kind of did that?…
After I posted this here, I kept fiddling around with the folder issue and ended up making one. The way that I did it though was by copying the scripts, then going into the top menu with VO M and arrowing over to the file menu. From here I clicked the new folder button and named it "Apple Scripts". The Apple Scripts folder I made ended up being created in the Downloads folder though, and I copied the scripts into it. After this was accomplished, somehow I got it moved to the side bar in the Finder. However, there's still an Apple Scripts folder inside the Downloads Folder that contains the scripts, along with the scripts themselves still sitting there. Would it delete the scripts if I deleted them from the Downloads Folder, or would they stay on my computer because I put them in their own folder? Sorry, I feel like this is going to be really hard to understand because of how many times I said the word "folder", and I apologize.
PS, thank you so much for telling me how to get to the top of the list of emails quickly, it was driving me crazy.
If you delete the scripts
If you delete the scripts from the downloads folder, they should still remain in the folder you created.
Thank you!
Thank you for explaining that!
