Question about Skype on Mac

Hi All, I've been using Mac a long time but never really used Skype on it. So had a couple of questions. 1. When someone calls me, is it easy to answer the call? Is there a keyboard shortcut to answer or do you have to navigate around the screen and find a button or what? 2. When making a call, can you choose whether to make it a voice or video call? I don't see an option. 3. Can you accept a new contact request from within the app? Many thanks, Dave

to answer a call simply navigate to the end of the dialogue and hit vo space on answer. to except incoming re quests navigate totem in the sources table on the very left hand side. to make a call control click or vo shift m on the contact's name and hit call, there should be a video or voice option in the context menu. Take care.

Thanks Marrie. It wasn't difficult at all. Glad to see how accessible the app is.

  1. If you're within Skype, you can answer an incoming call with command-shift-R. The mnemonic is "ring," because this is the same command used to start a call with a contact or conversation if you have it selected in the contact list or are viewing the conversation. A command-shift-R call will always start out audio only.

  2. marrie covered this well.

  3. You can use VO-J to jump between the sidebar, the list of participants in a conversation, the text of the conversation and the conversation input field.

Oh wow, I didn't know cmd shift r answers the call. when I did my podcast on skype 3 years ago ( wow has it really been that long) cmd shift r was not an option. thanks for the tip. I never rely on vo j as half the time on my old clunker, my side bar disappears during a call and I cannot show it. . Take care and thanks for teaching me something new.
