This post is asking about the word spelled S-C-H-E-D. It is a common American English shorthand for the word schedule.
I recently noticed that S-C-H-E-D has a huge pronunciation issue on current Mac OS. It should be pronounced sked. Instead it sounds more like a multi-syllable indecipherable whisper: sched. I've verified the issue with both Alex and Alison.
Yes, I know I can set the pronunciation using VO Utility. But the pronunciation is so aberrant that I wondered if this was an indication of a larger issue. Thoughts? What's going on here?

Not just Voiceover
Interestingly, Microsoft Mark, Zira, and David with NVDA also mispronounce it. I've never actually heard this shortening of schedule in all my years in California. I thought it was the name of some German company when I first read it on your post title.
Also on iOS
There's an iOS app called sched, and VoiceOver mangles the pronunciation on my iPhone, so it's not just Mac.
Never heard of that abbreviation
Lol when I first read the subject of your post, I thought you were talking about a shed. I've never heard that abbreviation before. But it does seem to be mis-pronounced everywhere.
Really? Funny.
No one ever said to you, "let me get you on my sched..."? Maybe it's one of those things that vary by region, like pop versus soda. But if there's an app named sched, I think it's safe to assume the term is pretty widespread.
Thought it was British
I didn't realize the abbreviated form was used in the US. Like others, I've never heard it used here. I thought it was mainly used in British English, and since they pronounce schedule as shedule, I imagine the abbreviated form is likewise pronounced shed.
As a brit I've never heard of this.
Looks like you're going to have to change it in the dictionary.
For a minute, that I thought you were saying sh*t
When my VoiceOver read it out, it said SHT and I thought you were saying it’s like SH Star, 0S**T like you’re saying s**t
I really don’t know why this issue happens
