I've been using Lire on the iPhone for a while now and it's a great app. So I thought I'd bite the bullet and buy it on the Mac.
But I'm having trouble actually reading articles. So I select one in the list, then typically uninteract with the message list, move right to the article's web area, then interact. At this point I can start using vo+right to move through the content. Except after I press this a couple of times, focus shoots off into the ether and I need to go start again. It seems that I can never get the full way through an article. Sometimes I can find my way to the bottom of the article and going backwards sometimes is better but the focus always seems to have a funny turn and I can never actually get it to read anything sensibly.
I also tried opening the article as a new tab which was less bad but still unusable. I then tried opening as a new window and just got "loading" and nothing else.
I'm also finding that navigating by heading doesn't seem to work, even though I use it in the ios app a fair bit.
So, go on then. Someone point out the really obvious thing I've forgotten to try. I did find another post on here from a few years ago that was never answered with a similar sounding problem.
Considering how much effort the dev seems to put into accessibility, I am having a hard time believing that this is just a bad app.
The other thing I found - when I am navigating the messages list is that I think pressing M should mark a message as read but it does nothing other than give an irritated little beep at me. I've found that action menu then down goes to a Mark as Read option so it's not a great hardship.

reach out to the dev
Just in the event he forgot to do something reach out to him. It won't hurt.

I've got mine set to open in default browser. I find it a little more consistent behaviour wise as some feeds don't render well.
It's not you.
I also just use the default browser. I don't know if this is just another unavoidable manifestation of Catalyst, or something the dev can fix, but either way I find that just opening in browser is the quickest fix if I can't just listen to the full text of the article while navigating the list.
Be good to know one way or the other, though. Remember, macOS is the lesser platform across the board.
Question on default browser,…
Question on default browser, know if there is any way to make default browser.. Uh, default? It's a bit of a pain having to change it each time I add a feed.
Re: lesser app
It costs the same amount as the iOS app, so not sure I would accept being told it was a lesser app.
Anyway, thanks for at least confirming it's not just me. I have a habit of missing the perfectly obvious so it's nice to check before I talk to the dev, which I will now do.
Re: Lesser App
It just seems like, regardless of the fact that the platforms should be equal, in practice they simply aren't. This shouldn't be surprising to me, but it still is. lire is only on macOS because of Catalyst; it's not a native app. Hopefully the dev will have time to, and be able to, fix it.
Re: lesser app
I get what you are saying, and you are no doubt right, but how an app decides to build their app should be of no concern to mine as a paying customer. It's not like it is included free as part of the iOS app.
Anyway I've sent an email so will see if I get a response.
