Good evening. Is there a tutorial for learning how to use pages on the Mac? Can you create documents using text edit, or is pages a better option?

Good morning Sarah. If you have Mavericks Pages has grown in to a more accessible word processor. Text edit is good but unfortunately, things like tables are not at all accessible. Pages however since it's upgrade and the upgrade to Mavericks has a great deal of accessibility built in to it. it now handles tables quite well as well as bulleted and numbered lists. Headings are not announced as headings but you can look at the font size which will indicate the style has changed. headings are usually larger fonts. I work for a state agency that recommends equipment to clients and am much closer to recommending the mack due to these new changes. I am waiting for a few more updates to dsee if they can fix some things but I'd highly recommend it. I have started using Pages to write my reports for work and export them to word and have not received any complaints. My only problem is pasting a table in to a document. If the table is longer than one page if I down arrow past it the curser jumpes to the end of the document. So, they have some things to do but if you originate the document in pages you'll have absolutely no problems with tables. Enjoy.

Here's a link to the Pages help manual which I found to be helpful for the most part. I am also working on my own Pages guide for VO which I plan to post on AppleVis soon. http://help.apple.com/pages/mac/5.0.1/

Thank you for this information, it is very helpful. I just got my Mac Book Air 2 days after Christmas and have started learning it. I am quite impressed thus far, both with the machine itself and with Voiceover, and the online training resources I've found. These include stuff found on here and on Apple's website. I have not yet checked out Pages, but Text Edit seems to work well although I seem to have messed something up along the way. I shut down my Mac completely and will come back to it tomorrow.
Hi Sarah, right now I can not think of any situation for which I would use textedit instead of Pages. Just be aware - and this is not a VO issue at all - that you may lose formatting information and the ability to edit graphics when converting from MS Office to Pages. Since Mavericks I tend to do all my word processing work with pages.
