Only seeing the subject of messages in regular (not classic) view

Hi,
I'd like to be able to only see the subject of message conversations in mac mail under the standard view. I'm referring to when I'm in my message list when I'm selecting messages to read or delete. In classic view, I used to be able to do this because the header columns were separated. Is there a way to do this in standard view? Often times, I have message conversations with 20 or 30 different senders, I really don't need to hear who sent each message, I just want the subject of the thread, and maybe the date the latest message was sent, and that's it. Also, is this possible on iOS as well?
