Needing recommendations for an alternative music player to iTunes that can handle extremely large libraries without being busy c

Hi,
I'm kind of desperately seeking an alternative player to iTunes that can handle very large libraries (upwards of 300000 files). iTunes used to be ok, except now, it's busy busy busy constantly, and I can't get anything to play, and if I have to change tracks, it virtually takes an act of congress. :) So, are there any viable alternatives out there? I'm running the latest version of high sierra on a 2012 MacBook pro.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
