Navigating in PDF files

macOS and Mac Apps

Hello all,

I was wondering how to deal with large PDFs on a Mac. For example, I have the Apple manual for Logic Pro with over 1400 pages. My specific questions:

Which app do you use to read the document?
How do you navigate in this document? In the preview it's quite awkward - but it could also be that I'm using the wrong shortcuts.
How do you search in the document? With CMD+f, the search results are displayed, but unfortunately I can't jump to them.

Thank you very much for your insights.

Many greetings from Günther

Why you don't convert to any other format? I use Speech Central to save as Word and then I use TextEdit with all my PDFs.
Sorry if this is not helpful.

Hi there. Pdf files are most definitely an issue. Ever since the initial release of Big Sur and perhaps even a bit before that, I have had slightly better luck navigating .pdf using QuickView. I still have to hold down the Control and Option keys though, and there's no reliable way to have things spelled out. But I've gotten in the habit of copying/pasting most of these to my website and it works well. There is now also a solution from Pneuma Solutions, formerly Serotek. It is called Scribe, and I recently ran a time-sensitive .pdf file through the demo version. The file contained only inaccessible images, but literally within no time Scribe converted the file into an accessible web page. There are payment options available, which are discussed on Pneuma's website. Hth and good luck.
