Mavericks and imap/gmail problems

Hi all!
Just within the last couple of days My apple mail and gmail account have been behaving very strangely. When I move messages and then close my mail app, the next time I open the app the messages are back in my inbox. Does anybody have any fixes other than changing to another mail provider? I have iMap/gmail set up and that is what mac mail accesses. Any info would be appreciated.
