log in screen on mac

Since updating to the latest Mac oS, I notice that it always requires me to enter my password no matter how many settings I mess with. I had this turned off, so maybe it was turned on bfor privacy and they don't let you change it now. That's fine, I can deal with that. But every time I enter my password, it automatically brings up the touch ID and password settings from system settings menu. Does anyone else experience this? I know it's a minor thing but I was just curious why this is.

Thanks in advance!

Do you mean the password that is required for changing settings? Or password at login?

When I updated to macOS 26, it turned file volt on automatically. Previously I had it turned off. I wonder if this is the issue you’re having. You can turn it off easily in privacy and security settings if you don’t want it on.

Thanks for this, I turned it off.

I was referring to the password at login.

I'm still on Sequoia and for whatever reason never turned on automatic sign in. But it's on now.
