This app does not seem very accessible under Monterey. I managed to get signed in but have not been able to figure out how to download my books. Anyone using the Mac version?
I had little trouble doing this on the iPhone andiPad.
Can you give more information?
What do you mean you can't download your books? What do you see when you log in?
You should know that you're not going to be able to read your books as you can on the ipad or iphone. Rather you need to use kindle's text to speech feature.
Ok thanks I will work with this so I have3 devices to choose from.
I found it confusing because pressing any buttons just gave me the "kindle has new window" but did not see results.
By the waym to answer your question regarding downloads, the downloads item on the menu bar is dimmed and on the library list, it shows my books but downloaded is zero.
I know exactly what the person who asked the question is saying. It seems almost impossible to click on the book you want to download. I've tried all sorts of key combinations. Once I accidentally downloaded the book above the one I wanted but usually it seems to be impossible to focus on the book you want. You are never told which book is actually selected and various key combinations don't get the book to download. Download in the menus is dimmed and attempts to line up so the book will be selected for download seem to be futile. I used to be able to do this back in a much earlier Kindle version. This has nothing to do with whether you are using speech or not; you still have to be able to find the book, select it accurately, and get it to download. Very frustrating!
Hi,
I figured I would leave a comment here, because I run into these issues as well. I honestly didn’t think Kindle on the Mac could ever be used by someone who is visually impaired. So since some of you guys have gotten it to work. Please enlighten me on how you did it.
So many times in these forms for folks who are using screen readers it's like people just go learn it yourself or take time to learn it yourself I get that for some things, but in the case of this, why not provide more evidence or more of a clue on how you got it to work! Also, imagine also providing what operating system number you're using also might help. I think that sometimes people just say they got it to work to make you think it's possible and they really didn't lol! In the case of Safari busy, I continue to get it when others swear they've eliminated it, and I've tried all the tricks.
I received the following email from Amazon today. I'm optimistic that the new version will address some of the long-standing accessibility issues. My current version is 1.39.0, and this email refers to 1.40.1, which is not yet available from the App Store.
Dear customer,
We are replacing the current Kindle for Mac with a new and improved app, which will include an enhanced book reading and library management experience. Support for the current app will be ending by October 2023. The new Kindle for Mac will be available to download from the Mac App Store in September 2023.
To copy any collections you created in the old app to the new app, please complete the following steps:
1. Update to the latest version (1.40.1 or higher) of the current app.
2. Open the latest version of the current app. This will trigger the transfer of your collections.
The IOS app isn't that bad, though I have seen people having issues with Braille displays. Now if only they'd add unlimited into prime because I already pay a ton, I won't pay another 12 bucks a month.

In that case...
I will stick to the iPad or iPhone since those two see to be fine. Is that text to speech feature in the Kindle app on the Mac? Thanks.
Kindle on the Mac is…
Kindle on the Mac is accessible for reading books. And yes, that text to speech feature is available on the Mac.
Still in learn mode

I bet they got it working on…
I bet they got it working on an older version. Not even the TTS support works for me now.
Honestly, posting that you got it to work is not helpful

Sorry to disappoint
Sorry. New version of Kindle for Mac does nothing to improve accessibility, as far as I can tell.
Kindle is inaccessible
I pulled out my Mac because I was curious to see if Kindle is inaccessible and it's not. Very frustrating, because the PC version works a lot nicer.
Ios is better
