Java Updater

Has anyone found a way to use the Java updater with VoiceOver? It seems to be totally invisible to VO. I tried VOCR and it said "Failed to access Java Updater, Unknown Window".

It's really annoying. I keep shutting down my Mac, then next day I open it up and find it couldn't shut down because Java Updater prevented it and I have to force quit it. At which point my Mac shuts down and I need to turn it on again.

I wouldn't mind so much if it worked. I have found an option in the Java control panel to disable automatic updates but that doesn't feel like a wise option to select.

It feels kinda pathetic that something that has been around for so long isn't accessible.

I'd forgotten about this option. To be honest I am not sure if I ever installed Java myself or if it just installed itself with the IntelliJ IDEs I use. Which makes me a bit nervous about uninstalling it.

The problem with HomeBrew is that you get thousands of lines of output whenever it does something and inevitably an indecipherable error or two in there, and then you don't know what it's actually done to your system at the end of it.

Maybe I should put the question on the Jetbrains forums and see what the best option is that doesn't involve me messing up my PyCharm.

But thanks for the suggestions - that has given me something to think about.
