Hi:

So I decided to give VMware Fusion a try today. I obtained a windows 11 .iso file, downloaded and registered VMware Fusion Player, and tried to create a virtual machine. It seemed to go as planned, but I'm not getting the windows install screen. I suspect that I haven't booted form the .iso file, but I'm not sure. I was following the steps from an older article on the AFB site.

Hello,

When you boot up your operating system, what are you getting on-screen? If you don't have vision, I would recommend using aira or an app on your phone that can read out short text for you. It's possible you might be stuck in the boot manager screen that is within the bios system, and to navigate the bios system you would need sighted help to get things configured correctly.

This is probably a good use case for Aira here. The good thing about it is that they can team viewer into the Mac side, therefore having unlimited control of the virtual. It's not like a native windows box where they wouldn't be able to help you through the bios.
