I believe that the Spotify application has a toggle in its preferences to control whether it loads at start (I don't currently have it installed, so cannot check).
If not, check in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items
From that screen you have some control over which apps load at start.

I don't use spotify, but there should be a preference option, accessed by hitting CMD+comma and there should be a start at login or something like it. uncheck the box and it should be good.
