I am in need of a good Mac OCR

I've been an iPad and iPhone user for several years and have just started using a Mac so am in need of a good OCR. For Windows, I have been using ABBYY Adobe; however, the trial for Mac does not recognize my scanner despite all the drivers being installed and it showing up in Image Capture. Is this a limitation of the Mac trial; if so, what other options are out there?

The built-in Preview app does OCR, it's one of the available options when you scan a document with it. I don't use it very often, and I definitely do not rely on it for generating important documents out of images, however I do use it for having an idea of the information contained in personal paper mail before deciding whether I want and need to ask a sighted person to read it for me, and I also use it to scan the numbers on my physical debit card for online purchases that don't accept virtual cards.

Also, depending on your scanner model, you might benefit from not actually installing vendor drivers, especially if it's a network scanner supporting the AirScan protocol. I had an old HP multifunction laser printer that worked way worse with the vendor drivers than with the drivers shipped with macOS, however while the printer supported the AirPrint protocol, its scanner functionality did not support AirScan, so I was forced to install the drivers from HP until eventually they stopped being supported and I ended up buying a new multifunction laser printer from Brother that just works as a network printer on all platforms without having to install anything..

Try Docuscann from Pnuma Salutions, or Sero. That's always been around and works well on Mac. Funny because I need a new scanner myself and wondered what kind of scanners were available I could get. Last one I had was a cano scanner, but I have to get a new one.
