Yo guys!
I was wondering if any of you know how one could easily mark a line as a heading in documents in common Mac text editors.
I seem to remember there was a keyboard shortcut that would let you do just that after the line is selected, but now I can't remember it, neither find any mention of such a shortcut anywhere.
I'm not sure if this shortcut I'm thinking about was specific for Pages or Text Edit, or if it is more of a global function that will work in most text editors that supports headings as a valid text format.
It would be extremelly nice to be able to navigate by headings in my own documents, but that of course makes it necessary to mark up the headings in the first place.
I'm open to using any text editor that will make this an easy task, preferably done from a keyboard shortcut.
At the moment I'm sort of switching a bit back and forth between using Text Edit, Pages, Microsoft Word, TextPad for easy notes, or even the native Notes app for certain tasks. Anything goes!
I'm very thankful for all hints you can give me! :)

Touch bar
Hi there.
I don't know what device you are using for your daily work, but I remember that on touch bar devices you had the option to mark a line as a heading on one of the touch bar icons, next to other formatting option, you would need to click another button on the touch bar first to get to another row of options, and at the mmost right there was the mark as heading option, this was in pages, I don't know how it handles with other text editors.

MBP 16
Hi Moritz and thanks a lot for your reply!
I just got my new MacBook Pro 16 a couple of weeks ago, and it of course also sports a new shiney touch bar! :)
I must admit that this whole touch bar thing is something completely new to get used to for me, coming from an old MacBook Pro from 2012, and I haven't quite yet decided if I'm liking it or not ;)
But I'm hanging in here, and this option you suggested of marking lines as headings in Pages from the touch bar is certainly interesting and worth checking out. But I still think I would have preferred a good old keyboard shortcut for doing it, and I anticipate that it probably would be more time efficient to do it that way.
Still, I'm going to give it a real try and see if it is efficient enough to be a good solution!
Thank you again for pointing this out to me! :)
Take care and kind regards from Cliff in Norway
Pages Shortcuts
here is another way.
In pages, go to the toolbar and make sure that format is selected.
In the formatter, vo-space on the paragraph styles button and interact with the list of styles.
Interact with the desired style and vo-space on the menu button. Then expand the shortcut menu.
You can assign f1 through f8 to a style, but you will still have to use the touchbar of course.
Touch bar again.
Hi Cliff.
yeah I feel you there, I also was a bit hesitant of the TB at first, I never used a MacBook for longer than a few days and my last one was an older model, I think a 2011 one with Sierra.
I recently tried out the one from my sister with a TB and I thinkk if used enough, it can do a great number of things and quicken workflows.
Greetings Moritz.
