So i'm trying to get used to filtering tables on the mac using numbers. But I cant seem to get it to work. Going into the, organize, tab in the menu bar, I see that the turn filters on, has a shortcut, option command f, but this option is dimmed, and I cant seem to turn it on. I've tried having voiceover be on top of the column I want to apply the filter to, and other options but no luck. Is there's something I'm missing? Thanks for any help.

Enter the filtering area. You'll find a menu with option to select which column to choose for filtering. The options will be labelled whatever you have in the top most row, usually your column name.
Once selected, you can then choose your criteria.
